5. Learning outcomes After completing this lesson we will be able to change from Compound to Simple sentence.

6. Joining with and if the compound sentence takes the same subject, the simple will be with present participle. As She is affectionate and she cannot ignore a child. Being affectionate, she can not ignore a child. She is a mother and she is careful to her child. Being a mother, she is careful to her child. Change the following sentences into simple The weather was very and cold we cannot go out. Tthe weather was cold and no one can do his duty.

7. If the subjects of compound sentence are different, being is used for be verb and having is used for have verb As The sun had set and we came back home. The sun having set, we came back home. Change the following sentences into compound. We had completed our duty and we went to the party.

8. If the compound sentence is with but, In spite of will be used to change it into simple sentence. As- Compound: He was ill but he came to school. Simple: In spite of being ill, he came to school. Compound: We worked hard but we couldn t succeed in life. Simple: In spite of working hard, we couldn t succeed in life.

9. If the compound sentence is with or , without will be used to change it into simple sentence. As- Compound: Read attentively or you will fail. Simple: Without reading attentively, you will fail. Compound: Do or die. Simple: Without doing, you will die.

10. Home work Change the following sentences into Simple or Compound sentence. I learned English well and I got a good job. The sum is very hard and I cant solve it. He is old at age but he is young at heart. Be punctual or you will suffer in life. The man is very weak and he can t walk.
