Determined that several elements of
the bridge cannot be viably repaired

Next Step: Procure contractor / engineering

Design-Build construction of the new bridge

$250M to $300M estimated cost

Structural engineering firm, McNary Bergeron & Johannesen, reviewed the condition of the I-195 Washington Bridge and recommended replacing the superstructure and part or all of the substructure due to identified deficiencies. The decision to close the bridge was deemed responsible. Multiple repair options were considered, with the next steps involving procuring contractors for demolition and construction at an estimated cost of $250-300 million.
