  1. 2021 NSF UHCS REU <Title of your Project> <Your name> Advisor: <The name of your advisor>

  2. Problem Define the problem Explain its scientific or application importance Situate it in the literature Outline underexplored aspects of the problem that your research seeks to address 2

  3. Research Design Operationalize your research by listing specific research questions and/or hypotheses and/or application objectives RQ1: Is the earth round? In a research question you look for an answer H1: The earth is round [and I will prove it] In a hypothesis you suspect what the answer is, and you just want to make sure AO1: I will build an earth In an application objective you develop a system 3

  4. Methods METHOD 1: I will build the XYZ dataset METHOD 2: I will run the WOW deep neural net on the XYZ dataset METHOD 3: I will compute the ABC goodness metrics to shed light on WOW s output 4

  5. Results Visual results Descriptive results Modeling results 5

  6. Conclusions & Discussion RQ1 seems to have this answer If I had more data, I would have been surer 6

  7. Acknowledgements The REU project is primarily sponsored by NSF under awards CNS-1551221 and CCF-1950297 The UH College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics provides additional financial support 7
