Roles of Postdocs, Research Associates, Research Professors (Assistant, Associate, Full) Promotion process for Research Professors, and review their roles (there is a wide variety on campus; numerated versus non-renumerated, one year versus pretty well permanent, etc) Mentoring faculty (in terms of research) Mentoring of postdocs etc. (NSF postdoctoral mentoring platform should apply to all postdocs) The curriculum implications of programs, entrepreneurship, research and innovation Be a council for faculty to request research needs, and solicit input from faculty e.g. by sending out surveys, Research Council will advocate to raise more funds Define strategic instrumentation plan (needs coordination with VPRTT) New programs as needed (e.g. undergraduate research fellowships, now Mines Undergraduate Research Fellowship - MURF)
RC RC- -RAB RAB- -Senate coordination Senate coordination /communication communication Always need RAB member on Senate: that member needs to report to Senate after each RAB meeting, once a month Need one person who is on both RAB and RC RC membership needs representation from Research Faculty, T/TT Faculty, early career and senior faculty, and library faculty

Where to go from here (2020-2021)? Operations Effectiveness and efficiency. Work with subcommittees. Use RC meetings to focus on discussion, not reporting. Reporting done as much as possible prior to meeting (Canvas or Teams). Issues on next slide, and subcommittee ideas two slides down (for discussion) Note taker Zoom chat

Research Advisory Board activities From Stefanie Tompkins, focus on three major topics: Research/Tech Transfer statistics: analyze research and tech transfer data to infer causes of improved research and tech transfer metrics and identify areas of concern Shared research facilities: develop a framework and business model(s) for shared research facilities at Mines (this group will also work with facilities and RTT office on how to subsidize or support better power management for research instruments) Industry Consortia: conduct SWOT analysis for Mines industry consortia across three general topics (Oil & Gas, Mining, and Materials & Manufacturing) and identify areas where greater collaboration, new business models, and university support can strengthen consortia Continued effort from a year ago: find ways launch and fund a Research Bridge Fund. Research Council could evaluate requests for such bridge funding (work with original RAB subcommittee)
