Reports on Sanctioned Events 2022 24thWorld Hot Air Balloon Championship - Slovenia 65thCoupe Aeronautique Gordon Bennett - Switzerland
24thWorld Hot Air Balloon Championship Location: Murska Sobata, Slovenia Director Claude Weber (LUX) 10 flights completed with 32 tasks. This event had been postponed from 2020 Generally well organised with no obvious safety issues. Event was run using Watchmefly. The Watchmefly server crashed during the event but was thankfully sorted out very quickly. There were a few negative comments about some of the tasks.
65thCoupe Aeronautique Gordon Bennett St Gallan, Switzerland 18 Teams (1 no start) from 8 countries Event Director Markus Haggeney Race won by Wilhelm and Benjamin Eimers (GER) with a distance of 1572.36km There was an issue with the registration of one team which took quite a while to sort out. Due to changing weather the launch period was bought forward but this went smoothly, and the race went well. The promotion of the race was very good.

Deadline for 1stRound 20thMarch 2023
4th Womens World Hot Air Balloon Northam, Australia Event Director: Gary Lacy Jury president: Debbie Spaeth (USA) all female jury Safety Officer: John Wallington 2nd 9thSeptember2023 The event is currently in the first round of the invitation process: it is possible that not all the places will be filled. The is a lot of support from the organisers to find equipment, vehicles, crew etc. The organisers are happy with the way everything is progressing. Deadline for 1stround of invitations 31stMarch 2023
66th Coupe Aeronautique Gordon Bennett After Switzerland withdrew from being the host of the 2023 Gordon Bennett Race the CIA Bureau invited NACs to bid to run the event. They were given a very short time period to put a proposal together and there were 2 very competitive bids from Poland and the USA. After reviewing the bids it was finally decided to award the 2023 Gordon Bennett Race to the USA. Dates: 6th-14thOctober 2023 Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA Event Director: Tomas Hora Jury President: Gary Lockyer Safety Officer: Charles Warren (aka Wally) Book 20 teams Entry fee: US $500 International Pilot Shipping/Lodging Allowance of $2000 USD & 14 Hotel Nights or $4000.00 USD-pilots secure own lodging. The invitation process to the NACs closes at the end of March 2023

23rdEuropean Hot Air Balloon Championship Sanction application received from Austria 16th 23rdAugust 2025 Wieselburg, Austria Martin WEGNER Total Number of competitors: 80 + medal holders NAC invitation in 1stround: 2 per NAC Entry fee: 450,00, including opening- an award ceremony dinner for 4 people, including Shirt for Pilot, including printed competition map, GAS for training and competition is not included , Competitors pay the going rate at the time of the event.

Intentions to Bid - NONE! 2026 World Hot Air Balloon Championship Sanction Applications for must be received by the Event Development Service (EDS) 60 days before the next CIA Plenary meeting. This must include a letter of recommendation from the bidders NAC.
