"Under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MSJE) in India, Composite Regional Centers have been established to provide infrastructure and capacity building for persons with disabilities.   1. REGIONAL TRAINING CENTRE

Under Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MSJE), government of India and the scheme of setting up of Composite Regional Centers is a part of overall strategy to reach infrastructure and capacity building at Central, State and District levels and below for awareness generation, training of rehabilitation professionals, service delivery, etc. There are national institutes and other apex bodies under same ministry in various locations in India. INTRODUCTION (COMPOSITE REGIONAL CENTERS FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES)

  3. To overcome lack of facilities MSJE has set 8 CRCs at following locations: Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) Sundernagar (Himachal Pradesh) Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) Patna (Bihar) Guwahati (Assam) Ahmedabad (Gujarat) Kozhikode (Kerala)

  4. PWDs SERVED AT CRS INCLUDES Locomotor disability Blindness Low vision Hearing impairment Mental retardation Mental illness Leprosy cured person Cerebral Palsy Autism spectrum disorder, and Multiple disorders

  5. A Team Includes: Audiologists Occupational therapists Clinical psychologists Orientation and mobility instructor Physical medicine and rehabilitation specialist Educationist Speech and language pathologist Vocational instructor All professionals work on the principle of trans-disciplinary approach.

  6. Role Of CRCs in Education of children with Disabilities CRCs provide both preventive and promotional aspects of rehabilitation like education, research, and manpower development, health employment and vocational training, rehabilitation for PWDs, etc. Generating awareness Providing support to NGOs and Parent group Building links with government organizations Human Resources Development

  7. Service for PWDs Early detection and intervention. Rehabilitation Mobility Aids and Assistive Devices Special EducationServices Psycho Social Rehabilitation VocationalTraining and Employment Enhancing special education and vocational training Research and Development

  8. Objectives Of CRCs To serve as Resource Centre for rehabilitation and special education of persons with disabilities. To undertake human resource development by training rehabilitation professionals, village level workers, multi rehabilitation workers and other functionaries in Govt. and non Govt. sector, required for providing services to persons with disabilities. To undertake public education programs for creation of awareness in the parents and the community. To undertake designing, fabrication and fitment of aids and appliances. To undertake services of education and skill development leading to enhancement of opportunities for employment, rehabilitation, mobility communication recreation and integration in society.

  9. To undertake research and development with specific reference to needs ofdiverse group of people with disability, keeping in view the nature and severity of disability in the region. To develop strategies for delivery of rehabilitation services suitable to the socioculturalbackground of the region. To stimulate growth of services by encouraging and supporting voluntary organization, parent groups and self help groups. To establish linkages with existing medical, educational and employment services, following the principles of community based rehabilitation and offer extension services in the rural areas.
