The Harp and the King Judith Wright-Australian Poet
Time and its Effect Even a king feels lost, depressed, and suffer endless agony Timeless suffering is terrible Nothing can comfort or give hope(even sweet music)
An Old King No throne despair, emptiness Reminiscent of King Saul- I King of Israel ( grieved God was away from God) Wants harp, singer, or David to comfort him
Time a traitor leading towards eternity- King does not like to suffer endlessly, but believes in morality Harp likes to praise time
Aching drought ( no roots, rain or leaves and death of many) Fertility is brought back by time Though seeds and dryness Mystery of creation seed dies to bring back life
King is not comforted Weary soul- forsaken by God Harp praises time again Time changes depression, sorrow to hope, joy and love.
Like trees gives fruits, time leads to unknown truths and loves unloved King not convinced- lost beyond redemption Failed God,betrayed his love, seeds of love in him are dried
Harp says Time teaches to betray all truth, leaves it comfortless, wounds the soul empties it Change and distance shapes human soul to a great soul
