Reflecting on Biblical Leadership and Worship

Let Jesus Lead

John 3:25-30 (ESV)

Now a discussion arose between some of John’s disciples and
a Jew over purification. And they came to John and said to
him, “Rabbi, he who was with you across the Jordan, to whom
you bore witness—look, he is baptizing, and all are going to
him.” John answered, “A person cannot receive even one thing
unless it is given him from heaven. You yourselves bear me
witness, that I said, ‘I am not the Christ, but I have been sent
before him.’ The one who has the bride is the bridegroom. The
friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices
greatly at the bridegroom’s voice. Therefore this joy of mine is
now complete. He must increase, but I must decrease.”

John 1:35-37 (ESV)

The next day again John was standing
with two of his disciples, and he looked
at Jesus as he walked by and said,
“Behold, the Lamb of God!” The two
disciples heard him say this, and they
followed Jesus.

Be appalled, O heavens, at this;
be shocked, be utterly desolate,
declares the LORD,
for my people have committed two evils:
they have forsaken me,
the fountain of living waters,
and hewed out cisterns for themselves,
broken cisterns that can hold no water.
(ESV)

Jeremiah 2:12–13

But the hour is coming, and is now
here, when the true worshipers will
worship the Father in spirit and
truth, for the Father is seeking such
people to worship him.
(ESV)

John 4:23

This means facing your limitations
and leaning on your Maker.

Luke 5:33-39 (ESV)

[33] And they said to him, “The disciples of John fast often and offer
prayers, and so do the disciples of the Pharisees, but yours eat and
drink.” [34] And Jesus said to them, “Can you make wedding guests fast
while the bridegroom is with them? [35] The days will come when the
bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast in those
days.” [36] He also told them a parable: “No one tears a piece from a
new garment and puts it on an old garment. If he does, he will tear the
new, and the piece from the new will not match the old. [37] And no
one puts new wine into old wineskins. If he does, the new wine will
burst the skins and it will be spilled, and the skins will be destroyed.
[38] But new wine must be put into fresh wineskins. [39] And no one
after drinking old wine desires new, for he says, ‘The old is good.’”

Slide Note

The hallmark of every great leader is the ability to lead oneself. This means facing your limitations and leaning on your Maker. We lead best by allowing God to lead us.

Some object: “You can’t be humble in my line of work. You can never show weakness or people will run right over you!”

Humility doesn’t equate to weakness. Rather, it’s where we find our strength. Or better yet, humility is the place we access God’s supply.
