Initial Conversations Summer 2018 Recognizing the Problem Despite an abundance of resources, support, programming, and academic scholarship related to disabilities, the campus lacked an overall culture of access. Identifying potential collaborators and partners across campus What are the potential resources we could tap into?
Initial Conversations What barriers exist preventing this culture of collaboration? Which types of events and collaborations would be most impactful and fit the culture at VCU?
Mission The Transforming Accessibility Initiative (TAI) is a collaborative of individuals and teams dedicated to inclusion and access for individuals with disabilities. TAI offers expertise, assistance, and resources to plan or otherwise support high-impact events. TAI strives to elevate the conversation around disability and foster a more universal culture of inclusion and accessibility within institutions of learning and across our society.
Vision TAI will foster collaborations and elevate the conversation around disability and accessibility through its commitment to: Establishing partnerships with potential stakeholders within VCU, across the greater- Richmond community, and with our nationwide peers. Planning and/or supporting high-impact events designed to highlight best practices, innovations, and thought leaders in the field of disability supports. Identifying and mentoring the next generation of leaders in accessibility and disability supports. Engaging in conversations around access and inclusion with the highest levels of leadership both in and out of the higher education setting.

How can we reshape our campus culture around accessibility and inclusion? 4. Engage campus partners in collaborative efforts around disabilities and access. 5. Find ways to acknowledge and highlight great work. 6. Create opportunities for your students stories to be heard.
