Issues and challenges Issues and challenges Proposed solutions The current QLFS plans does not follow the actual quarter period of the calendar year (April, July, October and January). The SSD is proposing to conduct the QLFS following the strict quarter periods (this would entail doing away one survey planned for May 2024) For the second quarter labour force survey period, budget will not be available yet since the releases are made only towards end of July. Request the Ministry of Finance for special arrangements, so that quarterly reference period of data collection for LFS is not hampered Whenever there is an election (Local Government, National Council, National surveys/censuses are put on halt and as a result the time series disturbed. Take up the matter to Cabinet with the justification that surveys and census are the core mandate of the agency and hence election process should not disrupt the conduct of data collection. NSB will ensure that the survey/census does not coincide with the actual poll day. Assembly), the
Issues and challenges Issues and challenges Proposed solutions With the increasing number of surveys/censuses in the country, the entry into the military barracks (RBA) to conduct interview is becoming more difficult. Take up the matter to the cabinet for discussion. Excluding military barracks from the survey would mean reworking on the sampling frame (i.e. PHCB)
Ongoing/New Initiatives 1. For the third quarter LFS, there is a proposal from the ADB to add a one time module on Job Skills Survey (JSS) as a rider question onto the existing QLFS for which they have agreed to provide NSB with the financial assistance of USD 60,000. Inequality Assessment of Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS). The UNESCAP has agreed to support NSB with a project which would include the CRVS data assessment by an expert, capacity building, data analysis and report writing leading to successful dissemination of the inequality assessment report. SSD is in discussion with the UNICEF to explore the possibilities of securing resources to conduct MICS. This is in pursuant to the discussion between Hon ble Cabinet Secretary and the UNICEF Resident Representative. 2. 3.
