  2. Paul in Rome Results of Paul s appeal to Caesar. Acts does not reveal anything about the trial. Evidence indicates at the end of 2 years, Paul was released. Philemon 22; Philippians 1:25; Philippians 2:23-24

  3. Paul in Rome Evidence for Paul s release No place can be found in preceding history for: Leaving Timothy in Ephesus while Paul was in Macedonia. 1 Timothy 1:3 Leaving Titus in Crete. Titus 1:5 Paul s visit to Miletus when he left Trophimus there sick. 2 Timothy 4:20 Paul s visit to Nicopolis to winter. Titus 3:12 Told the Romans he hoped to go to Spain someday Romans 15:24, but no evidence that he ever did.

  4. Paul in Rome Large portion of Rome burned in 64 AD Nero blamed the Christians. He was a cruel, unscrupulous man who killed Christians in his arena as a form of sport.

  5. Paul in Rome Paul was arrested again. Note: 2 Timothy1:1ff; cf. 2 Timothy 4:6-22 Does not anticipate release. Demas forsook him. Crescens went to Galatia. Titus went to Dalmatia. Tychicus sent to Ephesus. 2 Timothy 4:12 Luke alone was with him, expected Timothy and Mark. 2 Timothy 4:11 2 Timothy 4:10

  6. Paul in Rome According to early church historians, Paul beheaded rather than facing the inhumane arena or the cross. Merits of Roman citizenship under Nero. (AD 68) He faced death as a time to gain the crown that was awaiting him in heaven. cf. 1st imprisonment (Philippians 2:20ff) He was a great man, apostle, and servant of God!

  7. 2 Timothy Paul s last letter was written to his beloved son in the gospel, Timothy He mentions in chapter four, verse 21: give diligence to come before winter. Earlier in verses 6-8 he pens these beautiful words: For I am already being offered, and the time of my departure is come. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith; henceforth, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me at that Day, and not to me only, but also to all them that have loved His appearing. 2 Timothy 4:6-8
