What makes up a body? What part of your body could you do without? Would you like me to take off that part of your body right now? If you hurt one part of your body, does your whole body feel it? Why? So, what part of your body is not important?

Finish this sentence, Whatever you do to another human being, you do to _____________. St. Paul learned from Jesus that all Christians are somehow members of the same body the body of Jesus. Think about the different parts of the Mystical Body of Christ: Jesus, pope, saints, poor souls What is another name for this group? The Church! The Mystical Body of Christ is another name for the Catholic Church.

How do you become a member of the Body of Christ? Baptism So, is every human person a member? Why not? Not baptized Commit mortal sin (restored by going to confession))
Could people get to heaven without the Church? Yes, but they are missing out on knowing and loving Jesus in this life. Why do you think Jesus gave us the Church? The Church is the visible plan of God s love for humanity. (Pope Paul VI) The Church continues Jesus work on earth of teaching people about His love and helping them to be holy. It is a sure guide to salvation. Would you want to follow a tour guide who knew the way to your destination or someone who kept looking at a map and thought he knew how to get there?
What is the best attitude to have for those who are not members of the Church? A. We love them as brothers and sisters and don t worry about it because everyone can go to heaven. B. We love them as brothers and sisters, but know they are going to hell. C. We refuse to relate to them because they are not our brothers and sisters. D. We love them as brothers and sisters and pray that they will come to know the love of Jesus and His Church.
How do we stay strong members of the Mystical Body? St. Paul gives us a great reminder, The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not a participation in the body of Christ? Because there is one bread, we who are many are one body, for we all partake of the one bread. 1 Cor. 10:16-17 By staying close to Jesus in the Eucharist, we are drawn closer to one another and deepen our relationship with Him and His Church.
Listen with your heart to the words of St. Paul to the Corinthians (1 Cor. 12:13-21). Talk to Jesus about anyone that you feel isn t important in your life or that you find bothersome. Ask Jesus to tell/show you how He feels about that person. Ask Jesus to help you love those you don t feel are as important to you. Journal about your prayer.
