MUSIC AND DEPRESSION PLAYLIST POWERPOINT -Karina Noah Lalmiyev -Professor S. Teeple
1.How does Music Relate to Depression 2. Why do I find this topic Interesting? When people experience symptoms of depression they tend to feel isolated and alone. They feel emotional stressors and sadness throughout various moments of their days. Music replenishes the soul. Music allows for clear and cohesive thoughts to flow and to process in that individuals mind. The reason why I find this topic interesting is because everyone experiences sadness and loss of hope. When I find myself loosing hope or feeling lost in the world all it takes is one good song to A: express the emotions felt inside by crying or B: look at the bright side of the situation at hand and be thankful for all that I am given rather than over-analyze things that I cant control or things that I can t have.
Entree Number Two: Summertime Sadness - by Lana Del Rey (2012) Entree Number One: I got everything I wanted -by Billie Eilish (2019) [Please note both audio recordings are over one minute long] How this piece related to your topic? -Personal acceptance of your mental, emotional and physical state is a major problem with individuals who suffer with depression. I believe these two musical piece s relates to my topic of Music & Depression because one tells a story of suicide while the other is explaining personal unhappiness although all her dreams were accomplished. These two main points have a direct line to the state of mind with a person who was been diagnosed with depressed or who is experiencing depressive thoughts/symptoms. Social Context: -These two musical entr e s were written In the 21st Century but two influential female artists. When thinking of the social contexts it is important to think about the purpose that this was written. In my opinion the purpose of both of these musical works was to tell their audience that no matter how much you gain in this world personal acceptance and happiness is the most powerful tool a female (or male) can have in this day and age.
Musical Characteristic That Relates to my Topic: I got everything I wanted -by Billie Eilish (few lyrics to emphasize how it relates to my topic) I had a dream I got everything I wanted Not what you'd think And if I'm being honest.. I tried to scream But my head was underwater They called me weak Like I'm not just somebody's daughter A musical characteristic that relates to my topic is rhythm. Both these artists are very consonant sounding (harmony) which means they are pleasing to hear and not harsh. Eilish s song uses a heart-beat like rhythm while Ray s rhythm reminds me of a marching band. This relates to my topic because the harmonies and rhythm of both these musical pieces illustrate the steady and consistent pace that directly correlates to the steady and consistent emotional turmoil's a person faces. Summertime Sadness - by Lana Del Rey (few lyrics to emphasize how it relates to my topic) Kiss me hard before you go Summertime sadness I just wanted you to know That baby, you the best
