Course Expectations What we will be covering: American Literature A look at the American wild vs American society and how different peoples have approached these two domains over the centuries Homework Expectations Can expect nightly homework based on the progress we make as a class All homework and classwork posted to my website (includes links to every PowerPoint, worksheet, and text) Students are permitted 3 extensions per semester via a homework pass, otherwise missing work is a zero

  6. Absences Check my website and keep up to date One day extension on class/homework for every day missed Must follow up with me in class without prompting

  7. Grading Practices Live gradebook on Infinite Campus Each marking period=35% of final grade: Formative (20%): in-class assignments, rough drafts, pop quizzes, homework Summative (80%): projects, papers, tests/quizzes Each core=10% final grade Genre Apprentice Literary Analysis Final Exam =10% final grade

  8. Grading Policies Students will always receive a prompt and a rubric to reference on major assignments Any student cheating or plagiarizing receives an automatic zero

  9. How to Succeed in English Class: Reflective work Drafts show improvement Deep analysis and detailed explanation Read (Always) Be prepared for class Annotate all readings Stay Organized Use student handbook to keep track of due dates/assignments
