Draw and shade in each of the bar models to show the fractions. Then complete the sentence next to the bar model by adding in the fractions. Let s work it out! We find the LCM and convert our fractions!
Step 1: List the multiples of the denominator Step 2: Find the lowest common multiple (which is the lowest number that appears in both?) Step 3: Change the denominator to the lowest common multiple. Looking at Dora, she changed 5 10 12 by multiplying 6 by 2. 6 to Step 4: Whatever you multiply the denominator by, you must do the same to the numerator. If your unsure, watch this video and see if it helps. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GpumUOiGS6Q
What if the denominators are the same? Do we need to do anything? What if our LCM is one of the denominators?
Helpful Hint: Change all of the fractions so the denominator is 40.
