Training was not difficult, Marines picked it up easily.
System was very easy to use and provided easy to understand
results.
Initial inspections using EFAS usually identified multiple previously
unknown issues.
Initial work load increased dramatically (started working in shifts).
After several months workload decreased below pre EFAS levels.
Need accessible draw points on vehicles/equipment.

This will supplement databus loggers, onboard sensors etc.
 
Will enable units to perform CBM+ of lubricating fluids and help
pinpoint maintenance issues and trends.
 
Its biggest contribution is likely to be felt at the unit level allowing
maintainers to apply their scarce resources were most needed.

The USMC Expeditionary Fluid Analysis System (EFAS) led by Mr. Anton Schager is a deployable, real-time fluid analysis system supporting Condition-Based Maintenance for Marine Corps ground equipment. It consists of two tiers - a ruggedized portable analyzer for tactical units and a benchtop analyzer for heavy equipment. Key performance parameters include fluid viscosity, TAN, TBN, and more, providing instant test results in 5-10 minutes. The system aims to simplify maintenance tasks for mechanics in the field and at maintenance bays. Tier I and II solutions include advanced controllers, fluid analyzers, and viscosity testers meeting military environmental requirements. EFAS has been tested in proof of concept trials with Marine Corps units.
