Coaches Code of Conduct I will place the emotional & physical well-being of my players ahead of a personal desire to win. I will treat each player as an individual, remembering the large range of emotional & physical development for the same age group. I will do my best to provide a safe playing situation for my players. I will lead by example in demonstrating fair play and sportsmanship to my team. I will provide a sports environment for my team that is free of drugs, tobacco, and alcohol and I will refrain from their use at all youth sports events. I will be knowledgeable and adhere to the rules of the LMAA in which my team will participate and I will teach these rules to my players. I will use appropriate coaching techniques for each of the skills I teach. I will treat the officials and league staff in an appropriate and respectful manner. I will treat my opponents (players, coaches and spectators) in an appropriate & respectful manner. I will treat all my players and parents with respect and appropriate behavior. I will realize that sometimes things are not always accurate and correct and will accept decisions made on the field by the current officials representing the on field authority during game time situations. I will remember that I am a youth sports coach and the game is for the children & not the adults. I will abide by this code of conduct when using social media. Spirit of the Rules Coaches, Players, and Parents must remember the rules are defined to create the most beneficial experience for all the players. Coaches must remember that the games are to be played for the players and not for the Coaches or Parents creating the Spirit of the Rules.

DID YOU KNOW? It is a horse collar to grab the inside back or side collar of the shoulder pads OR jersey of the runner and subsequently pull that opponent to the ground sideways or backwards. Emphasis on this Rule No 5 yard chuck rule. Eligible receivers can be legally contacted until the pass is in flight. Must be contact for pass interference. Non-contact face guarding is legal All offensive players (including linemen) become eligible when a defender touches a forward pass Defensive Holding - 10 Yards or Distance, Not Automatic First Down Both OPI & DPI 15 Yards or Distance, Not Automatic First Down. Punter runs around then obviously starts to kick the ball - gets reasonable protection, whether snap hits the ground has no bearing on protection K can advance a blocked FG attempt or punt if recovered behind the LOS, even if the ball was previously beyond the LOS Onside Kick - K cannot contact R until the ball travels 10 yards or is touched by R The kicking team cannot advance a recovered muffed punt or kick-off, but can advance a fumble
COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS A HOLD IS A HOLD AND SHOULD ALWAYS BE CALLED! A holding penalty must have a material affect on the defender to make a tackle. Infractions close to the point of attack are more likely to be flagged than off-ball action, unless there is no effort to legally block (just throws a defender down). Defender must attempt to disengage and pursue.
COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS I TEACH MY PLAYERS TO PLAY TILL THE WHISTLE! Blowing the whistle simply reaffirms that the ball is dead (unless it s an inadvertent whistle, Players should know play is still Live. Players are responsible to know when the play is over & cease playing, regardless if a whistle is blown. YOU CAN DRILL AN OPPONENT ANYWHERE ON THE FIELD AS LONG AS IT S A LEGAL BLOCK This has been a point of emphasis at the high school & collegiate levels the past several years (which is probably why you seldom see it occurring anymore). Any player initiating engagement with an opponent (legally or otherwise) must be relevant to the play. The further away the ACTION is from the ball and the harder the contact, the better chance that a penalty is warranted.
How Can Coaches Help? Designate someone to verify on LMAA website that officials are assigned to upcoming games. This will prevent any game from not having officials assigned. Head coach attends pre-game conference Designate adults for chain crew and counting plays Understand & explain to assistant coaches & parents that youth football is a developmental league for players & officials. Youth sports is where people interested in officiating start. LMAA officials have various experience/ability levels. Youth sports officials will make mistakes, more than the officials you see at other levels of Play. Rules Question Call Time Out / Both Head Coaches and Officials Meet on Field / Must Have Rule Book to point our rule in question. Head coaches will be expected to take care of any issues with assistant coaches and spectators
