FUN FACT-
  THE WORD LENGTH COMES FROM MIDDLE
ENGLISH   “LENTHE” AND FROM OLD ENGLISH
“LENGOU” WHICH MEANS PROPERTY OF BEING LONG
OR EXTENDED IN ONE DIRECTION.
 
 
 
 
 
 THE METRIC SYSTEM OF MEASURING LENGTH WAS
FIRST ADOPTED IN FRANCE AND IS CURRENT LY
USED BY AROUND 95% OF THE WORLD POPULATION.
 
 
NON STANDARD UNITS OF MEASUREMENT

 IN EARLY DAYS BODY PARTS WERE USED TO
MEASURE LENGTH .
 BUT MEASUREMENTS TAKEN BY THESE MEANS ARE
NOT ACCURATE AND CONSISTENT.
 IF WE USE OUR HAND SPAN TO MEASURE LENGTH
THE MEASURE TAKEN BY THE DIFFERENT PERSON
WILL VARY AS OUR HAND SPANS ARE NOT EQUAL.

       A CHILD HAND SPAM IS SMALLER THAN THE
ADULT . SO HAND SPAM , HAND, FOOT ARE NOT

WE OBSERVE THAT NON STANDARD UNIT OF
MEASUREMENT DOES NOT GIVE SAME RESULTS. SO
WE NEED TO USE SOME STANDARD UNITS TO

OF CHALK, LENGTH OF PENCIL ETC IN

CLOTH, HEIGHT OF AN ELECTRIC POLE IN METER(M)
AND LONGER DISTANCE SUCH AS DISTANCE BETWEEN
TWO PLACES IN KILOMETER(K)
 
STANDARD UNIT OF LENGTH-
 THE STANDARD UNIT OF LENGTH IS METER
 ONE METER IS DIVIDED INTO HUNDRED SMALLER
UNITS
     CALLED CENTIMETERS. I.E.- 1M = 100CM
 METER  IS DENOTED SHORTLY AS ‘M’ CENTIMETER
IS DENOTED AS ‘CM’ AND KILOMETER IS DENOTED AS
‘KM’
 1KM = 1000M
