Friday, 8th January English: Today we are going to be using prepositions in our writing.
Review: Write a list of the conjunctions you can identify in the paragraph below use the list of conjunctions you made the other day to help you! (Answers on the next page): Before it was time to go to bed, Sarah brushed her teeth and read her favourite book. As it was a Friday night, she was excited to go to sleep this evening, because she knew it was Saturday the next day, which meant she was going on a lovely long walk with her family. So Sarah stopped reading and settled down to sleep.

Today we are going to be using prepositions. Can you remember what prepositions can show? It can show 3 things jot them down and check your answers on the next slide!
Prepositions can show: Time Place Cause We use prepositions in most of our sentences.
Examples: Time: The preposition is morning . She woke up in the morning. Place: The preposition is on . The book was on the table. Cause: The preposition is because . He was excited, because it was his birthday.
Can you identify the preposition in each sentence? Write the number in the margin, then write the word. (Answers are on the next slide) 1. Hint (Place) He was hiding under the bed. 2. Hint (Cause) Barry was upset, as he had lost his shoes. For question 4, 5 and 6, you can challenge yourself to state what type of preposition the word is. 3. Hint (Time) Tomorrow I am going to go to the shops. 4. It will be my birthday next month. 5. I dropped my keys in the bin by accident. 6. She was happy, because she had been on a long walk in the fresh air.
