Independent reading and in-class assignment on similes and poetry with a focus on denotation and connotation. Learning targets include writing similes, deciphering a poem's message, and understanding the difference between denotation and connotation. Success criteria involve completing pages 4 and 5 and defining denotation versus connotation. The day's limerick humorously centers around a man from Seattle. The review covers literary tone and figurative language. Students are required to finish specific tasks in their purple poetry packet. Additional concepts include diction, heart denotation, and stamping completed work.
