Integration vs Hitching:
What is the difference?

Hitching
Using an arts activity in conjunction with an academic
subject, without conscious effort to teach arts skills or
understanding

Integration
Connects elements, skills and concepts of arts disciplines
into core subjects,
with the goal
of increasing
knowledge, understanding and appreciation of both the
core subject
and
 the arts.
Successful Integration
To integrate
both
subjects must be taught with a
balance of rigor.
Rigor
:
The goal of helping students develop the
capacity to understand content that is :

Complex

Ambiguous

Provocative

Personally and Emotionally Challenging
(Strong, Silver, Perini, 2001)

2014 Theatre-On-Wheels
Jenny Wiley Theatre is pleased to offer the 2014 Theatre-On-Wheels production of
THE ADVENTURES OF MOLLY WHUPPIE
September 3 - 19
New Tour Dates Added:  August 18 - 22 and August 25 - 29
The Adventures of Molly Whuppie
is a delightful, funny, musical production combining traditional
Appalachian folktales with contemporary sensibility.  Molly Whuppie, who is clever, brave and
strong encounters witches, giants, an ogre (who refuses to do housework), unwanted boyfriends,
and all manner of conundrums, manages to outwit them all with a potent combination of nerve,
trickery, and just plain luck.  Also appearing in the story are Molly's sisters Polly and Betts, the
famous Appalachian hero, Jack (Molly saves him a few times) and three cornbread baking mice.
Jenny Wiley Theatre’s Theatre-On-Wheels program brings a full production, including sets,
costumes and music to your school. Give your students the opportunity to experience live
professional theatre without the inconvenience and cost of travel. If time permits, a question and
answer session after the performance is included.
