  1. GAUK Information for the applicants October 2024

  2. Basic rules Duration of the project 1 3 years. The topic can be identical with the thesis. Main applicant can submit only one project. One person can be a member of max. 3 teams. The proposal must be submitted in the GAUK application - https://is.cuni.cz/webapps/. Login and password are the same as for the CAS.

  3. Timetable The application for proposal submission is open until 31.10. 2024 deadline FSV. The time for revisions at the faculty level until 11.11. 12.11. the deadline for the faculty, not for the applicant Results of the competition February/March 2025.

  5. Principal investigator (PI) A grant application may be submitted by a student enrolled in the University and studying a doctoral programme of study or a master s programme of study in the standard study period (4 years for PhD. Study, 2+1 years for MA study). This condition is valid for the moment of the proposal submission. There will be preferred in the case of PhD. students such projects that can be finished in the period of the regular study. Only the students who are not planning to end or interrupt their studies should prepare the proposals. The project must last at least until 31.12.2025.

  6. Team The supervisor of the applicant (=PI) must always be a member of the proposed research team. The project leader (= usually supervisor but not necessary) must give on-line permission with the submitting of the project proposal. It is not possible to submit the project proposal without this permission. If the leader is outside the Charles University, it is necessary to activate the access to the application. The leader gets the automatically email from the system after her/his assigning to the team. She/he has the preview of the proposal.

  7. Team The number of students in doctoral or master s programmes of study in the research team may not be lower than the number of other members of the research team. The students of Bc. study programme are not considered as students for the GAUK proposal.

  8. Results The condition for successful termination of the project is at least a result accepted for publication including an affiliation and a dedication to GAUK. The expected results are described in the part Expected project outcomes and their dissemination . If you are not sure, please consult this part with your supervisor. The number of the results should be realistic.

  9. Application The choice of language Czech x English It is necessary to choose the right language version of the form. The mixture of languages is not possible. For English version all attachments must be in English. It is possible to mark the secondary section by the interdisciplinary project (= there will be reviewers from both sections).

  10. Application Overview of the form (tables): Title Czech + English Workplace Email GDPR (choose the faculty one) Interdisciplinarity Unwanted reviewers/opponents Description of research team it is necessary to mention all team members from the table with research team, at least their involvement in the planned research, year of the study, institute. The detailed description of the team is part of the attachment Project proposal.

  11. Application Overview of the form: Financial requirements in the detail for the first year, other years just as an amount in the table Financial outlook for the following years , Description of the financial requirements see below. Abstract (500 1,500 characters) Goals of the project (300 1,000 characters) Keywords (20 150 characters) Other Projects Currently Managed by the Principal Investigator or Project leader (list of the projects - https://science.fsv.cuni.cz/en/projects/)

  12. Attachments Do not include any attachments other than those specified below. 1. A brief CV of the applicant (max. 2 pages) should include: a) participation in higher education research competitions; b) presentation of own results at conferences and, if applicable, publications; c) involvement in solving specific tasks of other projects 2. A brief CV of the project leader focused on the last five years, including a maximum of ten top publications from the last five years (max. 2 pages). The CV should contain information about his/her citations (according to the WoS or another database e.g. Scopus) and his/her ORCID or Researcher ID number.

  13. Attachments 3. Scientific Proposal (maximum 5 pages, A4 format using standard font size 11, single-spaced, 5 MB). The PDF file must follow the prescribed structure and contain the following information: Current state of knowledge Material resources for the project Project objectives Methods of project implementation Timeline Risk identification Description of the research team Expected project outcomes and their dissemination 4. References

  14. Budget Max. amount 300,000 CZK for one year, max. 900,000 CZK for the three years. Parts of budget a) Other non-investment costs b) Travel costs c) Scholarships and personnel costs d) Indirect costs

  15. Budget Scholarship/Bonus Limits for scholarship 80,000 CZK for the PI, 160,000 CZK limit for the project. All scholarships must make at least 75% of the personal costs. Limits for bonuses (supervisor or the non-student team members) 20,000 CZK for supervisor, limit for the project 40,000 CZK.

  16. Budget travel costs Types of travel costs research stays (until 6 months), conferences/ workshops, summer schools, consultation stays Reimbursement: Accommodation, fare, daily allowance (only for the employee with the contract - see daily rates for each country, if you are an employee, please put it in the justification) The condition for reimbursement is the presentation of the research results at conference/ seminar/workshop/summer school (oral presentation/poster) The co-financing of the travel costs from other sources is possible (e.g., Mobility Fund), but not from SVV and POINT programme.

  17. Budget operating costs Other noninvestment costs include for example stationery, books, conference fees, publication fees, costs of proofreading, SW or HW till 80,000 CZK. The recommended price for NTB or PC is around 20,000 CZK. The rate of indirect costs is 15%, and the application fills the gap automatically. These costs are for institute (administrative costs).

  18. Budget ineligible costs Ineligible costs are phones, rewards and presents for respondents (just in form of services), refreshment, SW that faculty provides, courses, creating www pages, travel costs for persons outside the team.

  19. Financial outlook It is necessary to plan the budget also for the next years of the project. The planned amount must include all parts as in the detailed budget for the first year (do not forget the indirect cots 15% of all direct costs). The change in the planned amount could not be later greater than 10%. The application checks it.

  20. Description of Financial Requirements It is necessary to specify all amounts (show the calculation as much as possible). Please follow the budget structure from the table and do not mix the budget categories. If there is no big change in the budget for the following years, it is unnecessary to describe the budget for the following years in detail, but it is possible.
