  1. Kane School District EYE Mentor Orientation Early Years Enhancement

  2. Introduction State law mandates that all beginning teachers complete the Early Years Enhancement (EYE) requirements within three years of employment. The Kane School District EYE program is designed to assist new teachers in meeting those requirements. Mentors are an integral part of the KSD EYE program. Mentors should develop positive relationships with their mentees and be a meaningful help to their attainment of effective instruction and a Utah Level 2 license.

  3. EYE Mentor Overview & Expectations Meet regularly with your mentee to discuss and address challenges or questions. Conversations with your mentee are to be kept confidential. There is no need to share mentor conversations or observations with the building administrator. You are the go- to person for the new teacher!!

  4. EYE Mentor Overview & Expectations Create opportunities for you mentee to observe you and other effective teachers. Your principal may want to work with you to schedule these opportunities. Your mentee is required to complete AT LEAST 3 classroom observations. Try to keep them from being isolated in their own classroom. Observe your mentee 3 times during the school year and provide constructive feedback focusing on the observation facts, not personal preferences. Give your completed observation forms to your mentee. They will also complete a reflection form for each observation. All forms will be a part of their EYE Professional Portfolio.
