Youth Search The Scriptures Lesson 30: JUDAH'S MORAL SLIP
Memory Verse "And Judah acknowledged them, and said, she hath been more righteous than I; because that I gave her not to Shelah my son. And he knew her again no more" (Genesis 38:26). Text: Genesis 38:1-30
Today's lesson introduces us to another son of Jacob called Judah. He was the fourth son of Jacob born unto him by Leah. This chapter on Judah is intended to teach a number of lessons which include worldliness, wickedness, and their grave consequences. INTRODUCTION INTRODUCTION The moral lapses of Judah brought death to some members of his family and disgrace to him as a person. How Christian youth can overcome immoral practices and live a consistent godly life.

1: JUDAH'S UNGODLY FRIENDSHIP AND FAMILY LIFE (1/2) (Genesis 38:1-11; James 4:4; 1 Corinthians 15:33; 2 Timothy 2:22; Proverbs 7:6-23) 1. JUDAH'S UNGODLY FRIENDSHIP Judah's moral slip started with his friendship with unbelievers by associating with a Canaanite named Hirah (Genesis 38:1). Leaving his brethren and making friends with a Canaanite. There is danger in friendship with unbelievers (James 4:4). The influence of friends on one's destiny (1 Corinthians 15:33). 2. CONSEQUENCE OF A DOWNWARD JOURNEY IN A CHRISTIAN S LIFE Leads to moral lapses, wickedness, and grave consequences. Results in negative impacts on both the individual and their family. In Judah's case, his ungodly friendships and worldly associations ultimately led to disgrace and suffering.

CHRISTIAN YOUTH CAN OVERCOME IMMORAL PRACTICES THROUGH Being born again. Avoiding situations that subject you to temptation (1 Thessalonians 5:22). Fleeing from youthful lusts. (2 Timothy 2:22) Reading and meditating on God s word (Joshua 1:8) Forsake not the assemble of the Godly ( Hebrew 10:25) Maintaining a lifestyle of modesty. 4. HOPE FOR BACKSLIDDEN YOUTHS Isaiah 55:7, If the wicked forsake their ways and return to the Lord, they will find mercy and abundant pardon. No matter how sinful a person's past may be, there is hope for forgiveness and transformation through repentance and returning to God.
Point 2: JUDAH'S FLESHLY LUST AND TAMAR'S DESPERATION (1/2) (Genesis 38:12-23; Acts 3:19; Isaiah 55:6,7; John 1:8,9; Proverbs 28:13) 1. JUDAH'S UNFAITHFULNESS Unfaithfulness means not adhering to promises, obligations and allegiances. Judah failed to fulfill his promise to Tamar, his daughter-in-law. Selfishness, insincerity, and insensitivity were found in Judah as he refused to keep his promise. Fleeing from the sin of fornication The consequences of unfaithfulness can lead to compromising one's values and engaging in sinful behavior. 2. TAMAR S DESPERATION Tamar s desperation led to deception and disguising herself as a prostitute to trick Judah into fulfilling his promise.
Point 2: JUDAH'S FLESHLY LUST AND TAMAR'S DESPERATION (2/2) (Genesis 38:12-23; Acts 3:19; Isaiah 55:6,7; John 1:8,9; Proverbs 28:13) 3. A CHRISTIAN YOUTH CAN DEMONSTRATE FAITHFULNESS TO GOD BY: Fearing Him and acknowledging that He sees everything we do. Not allowing desperation in life to lead to compromising one's Christian experience and relationship with God. Christian youth are to flee from the sin of fornication, resisting all temptations that the devil might use against them. Faithfulness to God involves living a life that reflects one's commitment to Him, even in the face of life's challenges and temptations. Obedience to the word of God.
3: JUDAH'S ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF HIS SINFUL ACTS (Genesis 38:24-30; Proverbs 28:13; John 3:3,7; Revelation 20:15) 1. SIN ACKNOWLEDGMENT Judah's acknowledgment of his sin (Genesis 38:26). The importance of confessing and repenting (Proverbs 28:13) God's demand for true repentance. (Acts 3:19) 2. GOD S UNCONDITIONAL LOVE FOR THE PENITENT The manifestations of God's mercy and grace on Judah. The triumph of God's grace over man's sin. Divine grace and the opportunity for a fresh start. 3. Lastly Sinning youth can receive God's mercy today through genuine repentance. Maintain a consistent Christian life by reading and meditating on God s word
