MISSION STATEMENT The Interagency Airtanker Base Subcommittee (IABS) provides national leadership in all areas of interagency airtanker base operations. The IABS develops and disseminates operational standards that promote safe, secure, effective, efficient airtanker base operations. These standards include facility and equipment requirements, operational and administrative procedures, and personnel qualifications and training.
OBJECTIVES Provide technical assistance regarding airtanker base operations. Promote cooperation and standardization in interagency airtanker base operations. Identify airtanker base issues, develop solutions, and recommend corrective actions to the National Interagency Aviation Committee (NIAC). Support standardized training for airtanker base operations and provide leadership in training course development, implementation, evaluation, and revision. Ensure that airtanker base standards are consistent with member agency procedures, practices, and expectations. Serve as a central source of information, guidance, and support for national and geographic area airtanker base decisions and operations. Provide contracting technical assistance and support as requested.

2018-2022 SUCCESSES ATBM historical recognition for ATIM-2018 RTCM/MXMS PTB approved-2019 Combined the Standards for SEAT Operations with the SABO-2019 Added two new units-2019 6 MNFS 9 airtanker base specific topics added-2019 NIAC approval to extend IABS member commitments-2020 Solicited and received additional volunteers to fill vacant spots for the units-2020 Created the SEAT Unit and Airtanker Base Operational Risk Management Unit-2020 Finalized the Risk Management Sheets-2020 Finalized IPDs-2020 February 2024
2018 - 2022 SUCCESSES 2021 Virtual National Workshop/RT-273 Airtanker Base Directory Application completed and awaiting production 120-day temporary promotions through NWCG to concentrate on developing the FWPT training. February 2024
2023 SUCCESSES Updated and improved the Airtanker Base Directory hosted in EGP Changed ABDU to ABAU and added FLIGHT under this unit Recruitment of members to the IABS units Created a fillable PDF Risk Assessment with a focus on Airtanker Bases Created the SEAT Manager Toolbox Updated the Appendix M in the SABO Maintain great relationships with interagency program managers Ensure the IABS website is updated with the current information Disseminate information to the field through a comprehensive PDL 2023 airtanker base AAR February 2024
FUTURE PROJECTS, TASKS OR ISSUES Work on getting ATBM in the line for ASGS and AOBD Additional ATB specific topics for 6 Minutes for Safety Develop / Update NWCG training courses for all airtanker base positions 2026 National ATBM/SEMG Workshop (N9057/RT-273) Develop airtanker base checklistscreated by PRISM for users to perform Internal Evaluation Program (IEP) on their base April 209 October 2022 February 2024
REQUESTS TO NIAC Request NWCG to prioritize the process of standardization of training for airbase positions. Review and approve the 2024 SABO updates. April 209 February 2024
