  3. What is a Development Goal? Are we just jealous at BEE and their SGs? Yes, obviously DGs ensure continuity and stability DGs set direction for the IB and the Network

  4. The Purpose Shared sense of direction Giving purpose and context Focus our energy and resources Streamlining project management Creates accountability Increases member and partner value

Very brief history lesson 2013: Manual for SAP 2013: ELSA Day and EHRMCC are born (latter done by VP MCC) 2015: ELR is resurrected 2017: ELR (temporarily) discontinued + EHRMCC moved to VP AA 2018: EMCC turns to Jackson Tbc . 1989: ELR the first AA project is born 1995: IFP is born Mid 1990 s: ELR turns to SPEL 1996: ELSA s first LRG (lasted 3 years) 2003: EMCC is born 2010: SPEL dies 2011: VP MCC is born (AA no longer does MCCs) 2012: LRG is institutionalised with a timeline

  6. The lessons is Coherent projects require long-term planning 1. Development and change take time 2. Our projects should be intentionally contributing to the philosophy statement of ELSA 3.

  7. How to create a Development Goal? SMART goals Specific: Well defined, clear, and unambiguous Measurable: With specific criteria Achievable: Attainable and not impossible to achieve Realistic: Within reach, realistic, and relevant Timely: With a clearly defined timeline Structure Goal Means

  8. The Development Goals - EHRMCC Goal: Organisational stability and transparency Goal: Improve the involvement of NGs and LGs in the Competition Goal: Institutionalisation of RRs

  9. The Development Goals - JHJMCC Finances: Improved capitalisation to ensure sustainability. Implementation of longer-term contracts.

  10. The Development Goals - JHJMCC Marketing: Internally: Organising a Regional Round needs to be marketed as the simple task it is. Market research should be conducted in Regional Round organisation in order to improve the organisational quality. Externally: Improvement of the Competition Website to ensure professional outlook. Creation of Marketing report with pictures and graphs which can be presented to sponsors. Better involvement of Local Groups through promotion and making officers knowledgeable of the Competition. Being in direct contact with trade law professors to improve awareness.

  11. The Development Goals - JHJMCC Stabilisation and expansion: Creation 1-2 new Regional Rounds based on market research showcasing the need.

  12. The Development Goals - NLMCC Improving general knowledge of MCC organisation. Better usage of statistics to understand why, when and how groups organise MCC. Combining IFP with NLMCCs. Promote social responsibility of law students through National and Local MCCs.

  13. The Development Goals - ENC Goal: Establishing an ENC European Final Round Goal: Having a strong and recognisable brand Goal: Creating an equal and high-quality competition Goal: Utilising the possible synergies from other events

  15. The Development Goals LRG Goal: Increase visibility of LRGs as a project in the Network (internally) and gain recognition (externally) Goal: Improve human resources management in order to increase participation Goal: Increase the number of LRGs in the network

The Development Goals ELR Goal: Unification of published ELRs and improving the ELR Library (lawreview.elsa.org) Goal: Rebranding of the ELR to gain stronger recognition in the academic environment Goal: Creating profit on the ELR Goal: Establish cooperation on ELR publication with other societies/associations (e.g. ILSJ)

  17. Working Groups Creation of DGs: 1. Analyse each project using SWOT and Boston matrix. 2. Where are the needs for development/improvement? 3. How do we get there (operational goals)? Implementation of DGs: 1. Should we have an implementation plan? Timeline? Handbook? Reports?
