CarolinaCAP is a unique program that partners with local teachers, schools, and districts to offer a responsive delivery model for teacher candidates. The program focuses on experiential learning, summer support, graduate coursework, micro-credential stacks, coaching, and individualized needs. Candidates serve as teachers of record, complete core pedagogical competencies, and receive coaching. The program also provides graduate credit in areas like classroom management, lesson planning, instructional strategies, assessment, differentiation, and professional dispositions.

PROGRAM DESIGN A non-degree program of experiences to achieve goal of full licensure for candidates A summer experience designed to prepare and support candidates prior to entering classrooms A combination of graduate coursework, micro-credential stacks, and coaching, tailored to meet individual teacher needs CAP.CAROLINACRED.ORG CAROLINACAP.ORG

  5. PROGRAM DESIGN Candidates serve as teachers of record while completing program requirements. Candidates complete micro-credentials focusing on core pedagogical competencies and content area teacher knowledge and expertise (based on assessed needs).   6. PREPARATION EXPERIENCES The program provides six (6) hours of graduate credit from the University of South Carolina Columbia. Candidates will develop competency in the following areas: 1. Certification Description of Academic Requirement Degree in biology, chemistry, physics, or closely related field minimum of 6 hrs of biology, 3 hours of chemistry, and 3 hours of physics from a regionally accredited university Middle Level Science Minimum 2.5 undergraduate GPA Passing scores on the SC required Praxis Subject Area Assessment for middle level science Degree in mathematics, engineering, statistics, or closely related field with a minimum of 18 hours of mathematics coursework including a calculus sequence from a regionally accredited university Middle Level Mathematics Minimum 2.5 undergraduate GPA Passing scores on the SC required Praxis Subject Area Assessment for middle level mathematics Individuals who have previously enrolled in student teaching or another alternative certification program are ineligible for CarolinaCAP.   11. Certification Description of Academic Requirement Bachelor s degree from a regionally accredited institution. Minimum 2.75 undergraduate GPA. Early Childhood Education Applicants not meeting the 2.75 requirements will be considered for admission with a minimum 2.5 undergraduate GPA and passing scores on the three parts (reading, writing, and mathematics) of the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators. Passing scores on the SC required Praxis Subject Area Assessment for early childhood education Bachelor s degree from a regionally accredited institution. Minimum 2.75 undergraduate GPA. Elementary Education Applicants not meeting the 2.75 requirements will be considered for admission with a minimum 2.5 undergraduate GPA and passing scores on the three parts (reading, writing, and mathematics) of the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators. Passing scores on the SC required Praxis Subject Area Assessment for elementary education Individuals who have previously enrolled in student teaching or another alternative certification program are ineligible for CarolinaCAP. (PK Grade 12) Passing score on ETS Praxis II Special Education Multi-categorical Subject Assessment - Special Education: Core Knowledge and Mild-to-Moderate Applications Individuals who have previously enrolled in student teaching or another alternative certification program are ineligible for CarolinaCAP. PROGRAM FEES Overall cost per candidate is $7,500 State funds pay for $3,000 per candidate for qualifying rural districts in pilot year Remaining $4,500 to be paid by district All or portion of cost may be charged to candidate (district decision) Additional fees SCDE application fee: $105.00 UofSC application fee: $50.00 Praxis tests Refer to Praxis bulletin for associated costs Darkness to Light Training fee: $10.00 CAP.CAROLINACRED.ORG CAROLINACAP.ORG

CANDIDATE EXPECTATIONS Conduct themselves in a professional manner and maintain ethical conduct Acquire and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and character of a successful beginning teacher Receptive and coachable attitude toward feedback Be willing and able to use technology within and outside of the classroom Meet ALL deadlines within the program (i.e., assignments, paperwork, etc.) CAP.CAROLINACRED.ORG CAROLINACAP.ORG
