Epigenetic modification 5-formylcytidine (f5C) plays a crucial role in biological processes. This study introduces f5C-finder, an ensemble neural network model, utilizing multi-head attention for precise f5C identification. By combining five distinct features extraction methods into an ensemble learning approach, f5C-finder offers a comprehensive and efficient solution for mapping f5C sites across the transcriptome.

  4. Research topic brainstorming session Get into small groups of around 4 students. Brainstorm potential research topics, emphasising creativity and innovation. (15 mins) Think broadly and consider current trends and emerging issues. Then, select your top topic. Consider factors such as feasibility, relevance and potential impact when making your selection. (10 mins) Briefly share with the class. (1 minute 30s per group) Reflect and ask questions, discuss, offer feedback and share thoughts.

  5. Abstracts Discuss with a partner what you know about the following aspects of writing an abstract Conclusions Accuracy and Objectivity Keywords Audience Consideration Revision and Proofreading Clarity and Conciseness Structure Purpose and Scope Methods Results

  6. Abstract: As a prevalent and dynamically regulated epigenetic modification, 5-formylcytidine (f5C) is literally so important in various biological processes. Although, traditional experimental methods for f5C detecting are often laborious and time- consumpting, limiting their ability to map f5C sites across the transcriptome comprehensively. While computing approaches offer a price-effective and 2 high-throughput alternative, no recognition model for f5C has been developed to today. To draw inspiration from language models in natural language processing, this study presents f5C-finder, an ensemble neural network-based model utilizing multi-head attention for the identification of f5C. Five distinct features extraction methods were employed to construct five individual artificial neural networks, and these networks were subsequently integrated throughout ensemble learning to create f5C-finder.

  9. Let'stake a look more closelyat the following sentence Drawing inspiration from language models in natural language processing, this study presents f5C-finder... What is the subject of "drawing"?

  10. Why do you think the previous sentence with "drawing inspiration" sounds better than these two? This study draws inspiration from language models in natural language processing and it presents f5C- finder... This study presents f5C-finder... It draws inspiration from language models in natural language processing.

  11. Participlephrases A "fronted" participle phrase can be used to create a sentence structure that lets you say two or more things about a subject efficiently. Don't write every sentence in this style, but the odd one will give your text variety and help you to cram more information into fewer sentences. Great for being more concise and slimming down the word count!

  12. Punctuate your participle phrases correctly. (Guideline 1) When a participle phrase is at the front of a sentence, offset it with a comma and put the noun being modified immediately after the comma. Removing his glasses, the professor shook his head with disappointment.

  13. (Guideline 2) When a participle phrase follows the noun it's modifying, don't use a comma. Scandal is gossip made tedious by morality. However, if the participle phrase is non-essential (i.e., you could delete it or put it in brackets), then offset with a comma (or two commas, dashes or brackets if it's mid-sentence). The yellow Ferrari, unregistered in the UK and probably stolen in France, was used as the get-away car.

  14. (Guideline 3) When a participle phrase is at the end of your sentence and not immediately after its noun, offset it with a comma to help show that it's not modifying whatever is to its left. The boys loved their boxing gloves, wearing them even to bed.

  15. Avoid dangling modifiers, especially when using fronted participle phrases. Dangling modifiers are most commonly seen in sentences starting with participle phrases. (A dangling modifier is an error caused by failing to use the word that the modifier is meant to be modifying.) Having taken the antimalarial tablets religiously, the malaria diagnosis came as a shock. Overcome by emotion, the whole speech was delivered in two- and three-word bursts.

  16. Answers: Having taken the antimalarial tablets religiously, Sarah was shocked by the malaria diagnosis. Overcome by emotion, he delivered the whole speech in two- and three-word bursts.

  17. Rewrite the sentences as participle phrases The experiment yielded significant results. It measured the effects of temperature on enzyme activity. Researchers conducted a survey and they gathered data on participants' dietary habits. The study analysed the relationship between sleep duration and cognitive function. The study revealed interesting correlations. While scientists were synthesising a new compound with potential anticancer properties, they made a significant breakthrough in drug development. Experiments were conducted to investigate the effects of air pollution on respiratory health. The team discovered significant correlations between pollutant levels and respiratory symptoms.

  18. Answers: Measuring the effects of temperature on enzyme activity, the experiment yielded significant results. Conducting a survey, researchers gathered data on participants' dietary habits. Analysing the relationship between sleep duration and cognitive function, the study revealed interesting correlations. Synthesizing a new compound with potential anticancer properties, scientists made a significant breakthrough in drug development. Conducting experiments to investigate the effects of air pollution on respiratory health, the team discovered significant correlations between pollutant levels and respiratory symptoms.

  19. Now discuss the difference between these two sentences Conducting experiments ... on respiratory health, the team discovered significant correlations between... Having conducted experiments ... on respiratory health, the team discovered significant correlations between...
