Strengths Noted:
The strengths of Educational Programs are in the staff employed, the
experience gathered and in the care shown for each student
Independent life skills training
Supportive + Caring + Fair + Emphatic + Resourceful + Energetic + Creative
Administrators and Staff.  Great students and Dedicated + Caring parents.
A  strength that I value at Perkins is all the positive energy that flows
around. It feels like a safe and positive place to learn, take chances and
grow. All staff, regardless of their position here, seem to enjoy our
students and love their job.
In general, Perkins has a fairly and affordable incentive benefits package
(Health + On Campus Housing for eligible staff + Tuition Reimbursement,
etc) The natural environment is amazing

Key Comments from Residential &
Staff:
Strengths Noted:
A high level of resources from a variety of disciplines to meet the needs of
students, the resources to allow each student to reach his/her maximum
potential, the funds available for continuing education and the value placed
on this.
Openness to innovation and creativity to make individualized programs for
each student to best meet their needs, perception of students of all levels as
learners, opportunities for continuing education, access to equipment and
materials - especially through the Assistive Device Center
Focus on individualizing student educational experience; Focus on
independence; Warmth
Direct care & teaching staff.
Teamwork and collaboration.
Physical environment and facilities, commitment to students, Perk Café

Key Comments from School Staff
Areas for Improvement:
The areas that need improvement are retention, communication and
professional development for staff who work with students.
The school should consider updating the cottages so it is more safe and
enhances the utility and purpose of the residential setting.
Adequately pay teaching assistants and assistant coordinators to increase
longevity and continuity of services since turnover has us constantly back at
square one, greatly impacting the education and safety of our students and
staff
Form a more inclusive decision making process, involve TAs,
involve  coordinators, residential supervisors and assistant ed directors to
avoid a top-down ""executive"" approach
Increase transparency
For more information go to NEASC page on AskHowe
Key Comments from Residential Staff:
Areas for Improvement:
Higher pay for all, but most importantly for TAs.
Internal communication and opportunities for interdepartmental
interactions is not as good as it has been in the past. Lack of integration of
educational and non-educational departments causes a feeling of silos and
fragmentation…
Alignment of staff responsibilities across all programs (within job category),
increased offerings of in-house professional development training across
campus (mixed program groups)“
Recognition that the direct care and teaching staff are the core foundation
of the school.
Communication is always a challenge and could always be improved;
staff/parent relationships should be more open and productive rather than
critical and negative“
