Loud Reading
 
   
Loud reading is also know as
oral reading. Loud reading is
introduced after two months
of reading. When pupils learn
what they have to read from
the written text.
 
   In this step, the teacher gives
first reading to the text. The
teacher must tell the students
the correct pronunciation with
proper stress, rhythm and
intonation.
 
 
Objectives of Loud reading are:-
 
1.
To make the students to read with
expression and understanding
2.
To make pupils efficient to read with
correct pronunciation with proper
stress, rhythm and intonation.
3.
To prepare the students for silent
reading.
 
4. To give listening practice to the pupils.
5. To enable the pupils to get pleasure
out of written or printed text.
 
Merits of Loud reading are:-
1. Students learn the proper method
of reading because they follow the
model reading done by the
teacher.
2. This will help in developing skill of
speech.
 
3. It make students learn by
imitation which is natural method
of learning for students.
4. It also help in reducing the
reading mistakes done by the
students.
5. It requires proper coordination
among the various sense organs.
6. Some students are ear minded
through loud reading they can
memorize easily.
 
7. Loud reading breaks the dull and
monotonous atmosphere of the class.
8. Reading speed can be enhanced
with it.
9. It also develops pupil’s expression.
10. Immediate feedback by teacher
helps in gaining accuracy.
 
Demerits
1.
Meaning  is ignored where as speed
and accuracy are more emphasized.
2.
According to E.W. Manzel, loud reading
is not a source of pleasure always.
3.
Less syllabus is covered through loud
reading.
4.
Loud reading cannot be done at all the
places. It is not followed in the library.
5.
If a students becomes habitual to loud
reading he cannot become an
extensive reader.
