  1. IFAF Officials Situational Practice Currently for 7-man crews. Made for the IFAF 2023 rulebook and MOFO. Each situation slide should be printed and cut into individual cards for each position. Each participant is given the cards matching their position The participants get shown the line up and description on the associated line up and read their card. The participants talk about the situation and the associated mechanics. The participants should not know what is on eachother s cards. As on the field, you might see things differently. This is part of the exercise. Come to a consensus about the situation, the keys, the mechanics, responsibilities, the fouls (if any), the announcements (if any), the spot, down, distance, lateral position, game clock, and play clock of the next snap (if any).

  2. Line up 1 1/10 @ A-35. Ball: position. Press box is to the left. Line up 1. A run beyond the neutral zone to the right. Press Box 88 8 16 84 2 23

  3. Situation 1 Referee 1 A has 11 players. A2 receives the snap and hands the ball to A23 who runs the the right side and crosses the neutral zone Umpire 1 A has 11 players. At the snap, RT A66 blocks DE B98 low at 3 o'clock at the A-35. The run goes to the right. Line judge 1 B54 leaves the field. A88 is on the line in your side Linesman 1 B54 leaves the field. A8 is on the line and A84 and A16 are both in the backfield on your side. A23 is tackled inbounds at the A-46 outside the numbers. Back judge 1 8 seconds left on the play clock. Team B has 12 players on the field. B54 leaves the field. The run goes to the right and the ball dies outside the numbers. Field judge B has 12 players on the field. B54 leaves the field. The run goes to the right side and the ball dies outside the numbers. Side judge B has 12 players on the field. B54 leaves the field. The run goes to the right side and the ball dies outside the numbers. Center judge

  5. Situation 2 Referee 2 A has 11 players. A2 receives the snap and hands the ball to A23 who runs the the left side and crosses the neutral zone Umpire 2 A has 11 players. The run goes to the left and the ball dies outside the hash. RG A53 holds B93 at A-43 while the runner was at A-46. Line judge 2 A88 is on the line and A8 is in the backfield in your side. The spot marked by H is enough for a first down. Linesman 2 A84 is on the line and A16 is in the backfield on your side. A23 is tackled inbounds at the A-49 outside the numbers. Your spot is close to the line to gain, but you are unsure. Back judge 2 Team B has 11 players. A snaps the ball with more than 10 seconds left on the play clock. The run goes to the left and the ball dies outside the numbers. Field judge Team B has 11 players. A88 and A8 are wide outs in your side. The run gods to the left. The runner is tackeled outside the numbers. Side judge Team B has 11 players. A84 and A16 are wideouts on your side. The run gods to the left. The runner is tackeled outside the numbers.   6. Line up 7 1/G @ B-3. Ball position 3. Press box is to the left. Line up 7. A run up the middle Press Box 84 88 12 16 23 2

  7. Situation 7 Referee 7 A has 11 players. A2 receives the snap, looks to the left and hands the ball off to RB A23. A23 runs diagonally up the field behind the right guard. The push is strong, and A seems to gain several yards. A16 was lined up on the outside of the formation and came across in a motion in front of A2 and A23 while they were making the handoff. A16 then blocked B99 low at B-5 when "sealing the backside". A2 does a little victory dance. Linesman 7 A88 is on the line in your side, lined up as a TE. A16 is lined up in the backfield in a wing back position right on A88's right heel. At the snap, A16 goes in motion behind the formation and runs to the other side. A88 engages B62 at the line together with RT A73. They overpower B62 who stumbles backwards and A73 disengages to advance to the LB level. Runner A23 is downed at the goal line. In your opinion the ball crosses the goal line. Umpire 7 A has 11 players. The run goes up the middle behind the right guard. Center A53 has a fistful of B58's jersey but is between him and the ball and pushes B58 up field and lets him go. Ballcarrier A23 gets tackled around the goal line. B58 wants you to know that he was being held just now and wants to know how you didn't see that? Line judge 7 B21 is in the neutral zone at the snap. A84 who is on the line engages B21 at the snap and blocks him for the duration of the play. A12 who is in the backfield in your side runs up field and blocks B33. The run goes to the opposite side of you. You are certain you see the ball short of the goal line. Back judge 7 B has 11 players. A16, who is in H's side goes in motion across the formation at the snap and blocks B99 low. The run goes up the middle behind the RG. Runner A23 is tackled by B55 around the goal line. B16 wants to talk to you about a how he was being held just then. Field judge B has 11 players. A84 and A12 are wide-outs in your side. The run goes up the middle. Side judge B has 11 players. A88 and A16 are wide-outs in your side. The run goes up the middle. Center judge

  8. Line up 3 2/15 @ B-30. Ball: position 3. Press box is to the left. Lune up 3. A pass over the middle. Press Box 88 84 8 16 2 23

  9. Situation 3 Referee 3 A has 11 players. A2 receives the snap and drops back to pass. A23 blocks B55 low 11 o'clock at B-33 while A2 is searching for a receiver. A2 throws the ball. A2 gets hit by B98 a few seconds after throwing the ball. Umpire 3 A has 11 players. The offensive line drops back in pass protection. The pass goes over your head. A55 holds B93 after the ball passes over you. A88 catches the ball in the middle of the field, low to the ground, but has both hands under the ball. Line judge 3 B has 11 players. A88 is on the line and A8 is in the backfield in your side. A8 side-steps to the outside and runs a fly. A88 catches the ball between the hashes low to the ground and his back towards you and is down at the B-28. Linesman 3 B has 11 players. A84 is on the line and A16 is in the backfield on your side. A16 runs a crossing route just behind the defensive line. The ball is caught by an A-player at the B-27. Back judge 3 B has 11 players. A snaps the ball with more than 10 seconds left on the play clock. The formation is even with A84 furthest out and A16 on H's side. A88 and A8 are on L's side, and A88 is furthest out. A88 runs a post, cutting across your vision at between the B-30 and B-26 where catches the ball low and is down. You cannot see the ball. A8 runs a deep route near the sideline. A84 runs a deep route near the sideline and is pushed out by B33 at abou the B-25 before the ball is thrown. A16 runs a crossing pattern just behind the defensive line. Side judge B has 11 players. A84 and A16 are wide-outs in your side. A84 runs a deep route and gets engaged by B33 at the B- 25. They hand-fight equally until B33 pushes A84 out of bounds at the B-23 before the ball is thrown. Field judge B has 11 players. A88 and A8 are wide-outs in your side. A88 and B23 engage at the line. A88 gets by B23 and runs a 5-yard post. Center judge

  11. Situation 4 Line judge 4 A84 is in the backfield in your side, A88 is on the line in a TE position in your side. There appears to be a QB flanked by a RB. A88 runs 10 yards downfield and cuts across the field. A84 runs a Seam route up the hash marks and breaks out to the rear pylon in your side of the endzone. A84 catches the ball cleanly in the endzone. Referee 4 A has 11 players. A2 receives the snap and drops back to pass. A24 is flanking A2 looking for a defender to block in pass protection. Left tackle A68 is legally engaged with his opposite defender. A2 passes the ball to the left side of the endzone. While the ball is in the air, B99 gets to the outside of A68 who holds him, and there is clear material restriction. Umpire 4 A has 11 players. The offensive line drops back in pass protection. The pass goes to your right. You see A88 catching the ball cleanly in the endzone. Linesman 4 A16 and A18 are both in the backfield in your side A16 is closest to you. There appears to be a QB flanked by a RB. A18 runs a shoot and stops right before the boundary at the B-17. Field judge B has 11 players. A84 and A88 are wide-outs in your side. A88 runs 10 yards downfield and cuts across the field. A84 runs a Seam route up the hash marks and breaks out to the rear pylon in your side of the endzone. A84 catches the ball cleanly in the endzone. Back judge 4 B has 11 players. A84 and A88 are in L's side. A16 and A18 are in H's side. A84 is furthest out in L's side. A16 furthest out in H's slide. A84 runs 10 yards and cuts across, A88 runs a seam and breaks to the rear pylon in L's side. A16 runs a 5-yard hitch and A18 runs a shoot. A88 catches the ball cleanly in the EZ Side judge B has 11 players. A16 and A18 are wide-outs in your side. A16 runs a hitch to the B-15. Center judge

  13. Situation 5 Line judge 5 A is in an obvious shield punt formation. A84 is on the line in your side. The kick crosses the neutral zone. A84 gets jammed at the line by two B-players but manages to get past them and races towards the returner but stops. There is no return and the players in your area behave within the rules. Umpire 5 A has 11 players. A is in an obvious shield punt formation. B99 is lined up inside the frame of the long- snapper A18. The punt goes over your head. The players in your area behave within the rules. There is no return. Referee 5 A has 11 players. A is in an obvious shield punt formation. A22 receives the snap, takes two steps and kicks the ball. The ball travels across the neutral zone. Linesman 5 A is in an obvious shield punt formation. A16 is on the line in your side. He gets past his two opposing B-players immediately. There is no return and the players in your area behave within the rules. Back judge 5 B has 11 players, one of whom is a returner. A is in an obvious shield punt formation. B23 is back as a returner. The punt comes out quickly and powerfully and travels towards B23. B23 gives a valid fair catch signal at the B-15 where he catches the ball. Field judge B has 11 players, one of whom is a returner.
