IEEE 1609 Working Group Overview and Future Activities

IEEE 1609 WORKING GROUP DOCUMENT REVISIONS 1609.2: Security Services In revision to support minor enhancements and user-defined extensions In use globally; expected to be maintained and supported long term, including future revisions as needed 1609.3: Networking Services 2020 version published in March 2021 Compatible with ISO ITS Station Architecture Includes minor feature enhancements and new support for LTE-V2X LTE-V2X DSRC / 802.11 OCB
IEEE 1609.3-2020 ENHANCEMENTS LTE-V2X support (3GPP PC5 Interface) Release 14, 15 Support for IPv4 Addresses in WAVE Service Advertisement (WSA) No fast setup support as with IPv6 WAVE Router Advertisement (WRA) WSA support for application data payloads Explicit support for data exchange over alternate interfaces (e.g., cellular) while using the WSA over WAVE to initiate transactions
