  5. ADVISEMENT in HIED: Until admitted to Teacher Education (& HIED), your advisor is in the Teacher Education Advisement Center - TEAC. Once admitted, your advisor will be a full-time member of the HIED faculty. BEFORE Priority Registration for next semester, you will receive an email from your advisor. Before that, contact Dr. Kay Reeve. Each semester, work with your advisor to plan your course work. Students with more than 60 hours of transfer credit will work with Dr. Reeve. She also handles special issues as needs arise. Stay in touch. See your advisor. Check the History & Philosophy Department s website for HIED information often. Remember: Self-advised is ill-advised.

  6. HIED Program Requirements

  7. RECENT CHANGES TO HIED CURRICULUM Effective SP 2012: HIST 2271: Intro to the History Profession replaces HIST 2270 as a requirement for HIED students. Substitutions will be allowed ONLY for students who completed HIST 2270 PRIOR to SP 2012. Effective FA 2012: HIST 2271: Intro to the History Profession is a prerequisite for taking HIST 4488: Approaches to World History. Substitutions will be allowed ONLY for students who completed HIST 4488 PRIOR to FA12.

  8. Eligibility Requirements for TOSS 1. Formal admission to Teacher Education through TEAC 2. Completion of 33 credit hours of Teaching Field Content Courses (ECON 2100 and 3000-4000 level History, Geography, Political Science courses) 3. At least a 3.0 GPA in Teaching Field Content Courses 4. Completion of EDUC 2120 and 2130 5. Submission of positive Dispositions Assessments from upper-level History professors 6. Approval of TOSS application by HIED Admissions and Academic Standing Committee

  9. HIED Eligibility Requirements for Student Teaching 1. Successful completion of TOSS program, including recommendation of TOSS instructors and approval of Admissions and Academic Standing Committee 2. Successful completion of INED 3304 3. All Teaching Field Content Courses must have been completed with a 3.0 GPA prior to student teaching. (Student teaching should be the last course taken before graduation.) 4. Must have taken GACE History content exams 5. Must have met requirements set by BCOE 6. Must have met deadline for completing application process.

  10. Other Current BCOE and HIED Policies Dispositions, Grades & GPAs: Review catalog (BCOE) for Retention in Teacher Education Program policies. HIED policies as previously listed. Deadlines for TOSS SP13: Admission to TOSS program: Sept 14th for submitting applications to Hist/Phil office. Applications available online; no online submissions. Request for TOSS placement in middle school Sept. 15th for online requests; Sept. 17th for submitting paperwork to CEPP (Both are required.) Special Permission Coursework: American Studies Courses and HIST 4490s - Must receive prior approval in order to be used for required content classes. (Contact your advisor.)

  11. One more requirement: Chalk and Wire What is it? An software platform for creating a and collecting data. Who uses it and why? All HIED students and most other KSU teacher candidates use it for creating online portfolios. Faculty members use it to collect and store data about their candidates and programs. Where can you buy it? The KSU bookstore . . . About $80. When should you buy it? At the beginning of TOSS semester. How will you learn to use it? Check BCOE website for written instructions and for schedule of training sessions. Some help will be available in the TOSS class.
