Purpose of today's meeting The purpose of today's meeting is to: Inform you about a series of works to be undertaken by Highways England, along the M11 between J9 and J12 and how we propose to deliver them. Understand your concerns and mitigate them where practicable. Outline how we will engage with affected stakeholders and encourage feedback. Open lines of communication and information sharing during pre- works and throughout construction. 4
Why we need to do the work We plan to replace worn out bridge joints to prevent deterioration and extend the service life of the structure. We will improve road markings on the M11 to help reduce the risk of roadside collisions. We plan to improve sections of the carriageway to help limit future repairs (e.g. delivering schemes with 20+ years design life, compared to 5-10 years) All the works on the M11 will help improve safety, assist with smoother traffic flows; and safer and secure bridges. 5
Scope of works 2020-21: When are we planning to undertake work on the M11 - 2020/21 The M11 works will be carried out between Junction 9 and Junction 12. The works will be delivered at different stages. The first scheme started in early September 2020 and is currently on-going. The Programme will last for four months. Work that impacts Local Highway Authority (LHA) - Work will be undertaken across all the schemes overnight, during weeknights, with some work carried out under full weekend closures. Diversions will be required to permit closing the motorway. 6
