Hepatitis in Corrections: Opt-In vs. Opt-Out Approach
Partnering with the Oregon Health Authority, the Hepatitis-HIV-AIDS Awareness Project, and other agencies, the Oregon Immunization Program is focusing on increasing testing and vaccine awareness for hepatitis in correctional facilities. The 2019 data reveals high rates of HBV and HCV infections among incarcerated individuals, prompting a call for optimizing testing strategies, raising vaccine awareness, and enhancing linkage-to-care services. Future directions include exploring opt-out testing and HCV-specific care services in collaboration with HHAAP.
