Geosciences Node Report - August 30, 2018
Deliveries to Geosciences Archives are improving, but some missions and instruments are still behind schedule. Development of Geosciences Archives is lagging in certain areas. Funding has been received in full with a small percentage yet to be allocated. Time spent on PDS-wide activities shows distribution across various tasks. Individual Data Providers Program shows progress in active, pending, and completed letters in FY18.

Individual Data Providers Issues: Lots of hand-holding (i.e., training) Despite node initiatives, little or no response from some providers until near the end of their funding, resulting in large last-minute effort by node personnel Data Management Plans: We provide advice as requested. We refer them to the DMP FAQ online and the PDS Proposer s Archive Guide. Percentage of node time: 30% summed over personnel time. Changes to ROSES language: Clarify PDS-equivalent archive to include requirements for peer review and documentation. 7 August 30, 2018 PDS MANAGEMENT COUNCIL
Near-term Concerns Lots of individual data providers with little PDS experience leads to many time-intensive interfaces. Need tools, documentation, and training to enable consistent and streamlined archiving with PDS4 standards. How to ensure consistent PDS4 implementation across nodes? For example, use lessons learned from MESSENGER migration. 8 August 30, 2018 PDS MANAGEMENT COUNCIL
