HUNTER GATHERER: HISTORY OF GENDER AND PROFESSIONALISM Talk about the hunter & gatheres, the first families - how the man was born more built, and hunted for the family. The woman stayed, and took care of children. The trend is still pretty much the same. Talk about manhood : Why don t we have womanhood : Diffrence between male (related to sex & biology), being a man - associated with certain traits.

Being a male is a matter of pure biology the result of being born with a XY chromosome. Being a man, on the other hand, is a title of honor: a prize that must be earnedthrough struggle -Talk about how masculinity&Feminity have become labels; colors,jobs,clothing, toys, food,emotions. Phrases we have all heard of regarding gender and professions: You re a girl. Why are you in engineering? A man is to provide for his family. A woman should be in the home, tending to her family.

MOVIES THAT PERPETUATE FURTHER STEREOTYPES ABOUT PROFESSIONALISM & GENDER Examples of stereotypes Fun with Dick & Jane, American Gangster Jane is portrayed as a new house wife who relies on Dick for income. When he loses his job as a result of the stock market crash, Jane is devastated and still looks to Dick for solidarity in how to overcome their unemployment crisis. Denzel Washington plays Franc Lucas, an American drug dealer. His wife, Laurie Roberts played by Carla Gugino, plays the role of a loyal, abiding, right-hand house wife.
POLITICAL LOOPHOLES TOWARDS WOMEN The Invisible War: More than 500 women raped in the army to date. A woman, victim of rape by her senior officer when she was working in the army was interviewed in the movie and she states that she was so dramatically affected by the incident that she had a broken jaw and couldn t move any of her body parts. She states that even after 11 years of the incident she still has to take a number of medications for anti- depression and various other pains.
