Gender Inequality Index: Insights and Improvements
The Gender Inequality Index (GII) introduced by Dr. Tanni Mukhopadhyay enables tracking of empowerment aspects for women and girls. It focuses on bodily integrity, social empowerment, and access to opportunities. The index captures inequalities stemming from differing performance on the same issues and those affecting a specific gender due to biological differences. Improvements in data methodologies and collection are crucial for better tracking of the Sustainable Development Goals at national, regional, and global levels.
