GEDE in a Nutshell: Improving Infrastructure Interactions
Founded in 2015 by Leif Laaksonen and Peter Wittenburg, GEDE focuses on enhancing interactions with practitioners building ESFRIs and ERICs. Operating with limited funds, GEDE conducts various activities like consensus document creation, webinars, and collaborations to advance infrastructure development and promote FAIR Digital Objects.

GEDE in a Nutshell September 2019 Peter Wittenburg, Carlo Zw lf Szuzsanna Szeredi
What is GEDE? founded in 2015 by Leif Laaksonen and Peter Wittenburg within the RDA Europe 3 Project and is recognised as an RDA Coordination Group The intention was and still is to improve the interactions with those practitioners who are in charge of building infrastructures in the ESFRIs and ERICs and who have the deep experience. DOERs Network: high reputation, Fast reaction, cross-domain, From about 60 initiatives which were addressed, 47 responded within shortest time positively. GEDE is working with small funds now being supported by RDA Europe 4. Most of the work in GEDE is done on a voluntary basis.
What is GEDE doing? GEDE carried out quite a number of different activities all addressing infrastructure related topics: creating consensus documents being endorsed by the GEDE community (and by RDA) organising webinars, workshops, web-workshops running surveys mediating between the EOSC process and the ESFRIs/ERICs stimulating the writing of papers stimulating GEDE groups to write funding proposals collaborating with other initiatives such as C2CAMP, RDA Groups, CODATA, GOFAIR, DONA, CNRI, etc. meetings with industry experts
Special Attention in GEDE on FAIR DO GEDE put special attention on the emerging FAIR Digital Objects (FDO) covering about 150 experts with about 120 from Europe and about 30 from different regions (US, Asia, Africa, Australia) closely collaborating with C2CAMP which is a lose international collaboration between centres implementing FDO technology closely collaborating with RDA Data Fabric and GOFAIR many activities were (co) organised to push this new revolutionary approach workshops webinars meetings with industry writing papers defining roadmaps etc.
