Getting The Basics Right Those That Don t Don t Get Get Any Funding
Remember Who This Is About It s not about what we want but; What the funder wants and our beneficiaries need We ve checked the funder s website to ensure our bid fits what they want and; If possible, we ve engaged them, by meeting them, phone or email And they may give you feedback that will help in preparing your bid
We Meet The Funders Requirements We meet their eligibility criteria and; Have complied with any instructions How bid is to be submitted online, by e mail etc Includes all the information they ask for We meet any deadline dates, word counts, guidance on attachments
Making A Compelling Case If You Don t Submit Quality Bids How Many You Submit Doesn t Matter
Weve Made Our Case Well It includes the facts, figures, arguments to make a compelling case Explains why we are best placed to deliver the project/initiative And conveys the urgency of the need Costs have been identified and accurately estimated Including a share of any overheads, such as rent, insurance etc But, no more than the funder is likely to accept; usually 10% - 15%
It Will Engage The Funder It s short, clear and will be understood by anyone reading it Usually, no more than a couple of pages It s jargon free, with any acronyms easily understandable or explained It s emotionally engaging People give to people and want to know that: Their money will make a difference to an issue that matters to them
Success Rates? How successful you will be depends on a lot of factors But a very crude rule of thumb is: 1 in 3 for warm funders and; 1 in 10 for cold The advice above, will help move the probability of success in your favour, but . That s still a lot of bids to write, so how can we manage that?
