FOOD!

I‘m Absolutley Full Tonight
I’m absolutely full tonight.
I couldn’t eat another bite.
I couldn’t eat a half a bean,
or even taste a tangerine.
I couldn’t lick a lettuce leaf
or bite the slightest bit of beef.
I couldn’t polish off a pea
or sip a single drop of tea
or nibble on a nanogram
of pickled ham or candied yam
or lamb or clam or jam or Spam.
Yes, that’s how full I truly am.
To even think of eating more
would leave me lying on the floor
and surely make my stomach hurt
unless, of course, you’ve got dessert.

Chocolate For Breakfast
Chocolate for breakfast.
Chocolate for lunch.
Chocolate for dinner.
Chocolate for brunch.
Chocolate on Saturday,
chocolate on Sunday,
and nothing but chocolate
the whole day on Monday.
On Tuesday and Wednesday
it’s chocolate galore.
On Thursday and Friday
I eat even more.
I know it’s not healthy;
that’s totally clear.
But, still, I go nuts in
November each year.
And there’s not a fruit
or a veggie in sight
at least for a week
after Halloween night.

When Larry Made Lasagna
When Larry made lasagna
all his neighbors stopped and stared.
His lasagna was the largest
that had ever been prepared.
He used ninety yards of pasta
and a half a ton of cheese,
and the sauce, he spread with spatulas
that looked a lot like skis.
With a hundred pounds of vegetables
and wagon-loads of meat
plus a tiny sprig of parsley
his lasagna was complete.
So he lifted that lasagna
with a forklift and a crane
and he placed it in an oven
that was longer than a train.
For a week, while it was baking,
its aroma filled the town,
till he took it from the oven
piping hot and golden brown.
All the neighbors came and tasted it
but frowned at him, and then
they complained, “It needs a bit more salt.
You’ll have to start again.”

My Lunch
A candy bar.
A piece of cake.
A lollipop.
A chocolate shake.
A jelly donut.
Chocolate chips.
Some gummy worms
and licorice whips.
A candy cane.
A lemon drop.
Some bubblegum
and soda pop.
Vanilla wafers.
Cherry punch.
My mom slept in
while I made lunch.

Now its your turn…

Can you write your own rhyming food poem?

Ken has some steps to help you…

Find a piece of paper or use your exercise book…

First: make a list of 4 sports e.g. basketball, football etc.
Next make a list of 4 different lots of foods (making sure you pick
foods names that rhyme e.g. steak and cake, ham and jam, custard and
mustard) We’ve attached a list of rhyming foods to help at the end!
Then add a food to each sport using the word ‘with’ in the middle e.g.
Basketball with cake
Football with ham.
After that re arrange your lines so the rhyming foods are on the 2
nd
and 4
th
 lines e.g.
   Hockey with cheese.
   Basketball with cake.
   Baseball with pizza.
   Football with steak.

Then write an ending with 2 lines
e.g. Playing with your food
is really lots of fun.
Next choose a word that rhymes with the last word in each of these
two lines
    e.g. food-rude
Finally add both parts of your poem together:
   Hockey with cheese.
   Basketball with cake.
   Baseball with pizza.
   Football with steak.
   This is really very rude
You should never play with your food!

Just have a go and see what you come up with!
