MAN UP BIBLE SERIES IRON MAN 1 A Call To Mentor Lesson Three
The Real World Have you ever noticed have different men and women are when they go shopping? Women make it an all day event with the plan all laid out. Men look at it like a race. The faster I can get in and out the better. I am not sharing this to open a debate on which way it better. I do want to note that men have a clear process. Once they know what they want they go out and buy it. Where am I going with this? It is the same thing when it comes to finding a mentor in life. The key to finding a mentor is knowing what you are looking for. The first step is to Know Thyself in true Shakespeare style. And that is a problem for us guys. We are not good at self assessment. That can get too touchy feely for us. We can tend to not be able to see our own limitations. Lets see what the Bible has to say about this.
The Real Word Matthew 6:19-34New International Version (NIV) Treasures in Heaven 19 Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.20But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.21For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. 22 The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy,[a]your whole body will be full of light.23But if your eyes are unhealthy,[b]your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness! 24 No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money. Do Not Worry 25 Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?26Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?27Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life[c]? 28 And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin.29Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.30If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you you of little faith?31So do not worry, saying, What shall we eat? or What shall we drink? or What shall we wear? 32For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.34Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Real Talk A.W. TOZAR S RULES OF SELF DISCOVERY Answer these questions honestly: 1. What do you want Most? 2. What do you think about Most? 3. How do you use your Money? 4. What do you do with your Leisure Time? 5. Who do you spend most time with? 6. Who do you admire? 7. What do you laugh at? Did you learn anything about yourself? Anything to change?
Real Steps As you answered those questions you may need to develop a plan to change: WHAT DO YOU WANT? Where do you want to be in Ten Years? More Knowledge? Better Attitudes? Better Habits? More Skills? WHAT PRICE ARE YOU WILLING TO PAY? Set Priorities In order to be the best you have to put in the time. Are you willing? HOW DO YOU PLAN TO ACCOMPLISH YOUR OBJECTIVES? Fail To Plan Who needs to be involved? What do you need to succeed? Where are you going? WHO ARE YOU REALLY ? Knowing Thyself Personality? Temperament? Ways you relate? Traits? HOW DO YOU LEARN? Book Smart or Street Smart? Do you like books? Do you learn by watching? Do you learn by talking?
Time to Close I do not know about you but this was one good lesson. I hope you took your time to really answer the questions honestly. What did you see about yourself? If you are like the rest of us you saw some areas where you are doing great and some areas where you need help. We all need help! So where do we go for this kind of help? It is called finding a MENTOR. Someone who can come alongside of you and be a help and a guide. It could be your Corps Officer. It could be a friend at the Corps or work. You may have also seen that you have a calling to be helpful to other guys who are younger that you. If this is starting to make sense to you then begin to look around to be of help or seek help. There are guys willing to help if you are willing to pay the price to be the best you! Time to MAN UP!
