We are pupils of Polis Chrysochous Primary School We live in the most beautiful are of Cyprus. We will take you on a guided tour to the most beautiful National Park Akamas We will see together the highest peak of the Akamas the Peak of Sotera
S The National Park of Akamas is situated on the West Coast of Cyprus and covers about 230 square kilometers. According to one assumption the name of the area was from a Trojan Hero Akamanta, son of Theseas and Phaedra who came to Cyprus and built a colony. Another belief is that name came from uncultivated. the Greek word
It is unique because The uniqueness of the area for Cyprus and the whole of the Mediterranean is its rich ecology. The variety of its flora and fauna in the comparatively small area is indeed impressive. Rare plants grow here. A habitat for foxes, bats, snakes and other reptiles. Additionally many birds pass through the Akamas during their migration. From about 128 types of plants which are endemic to Cyprus, 39 are found in the peninsula of Akamas.

PeakofSotera Peak of Sotera 400m above sea level, is the highest peak of the Peninsula of Akamas. The word - moutti means in Cypriot dialect nose. At the same time it aslo means the highest point, the peak of a hill or a mountain. It is used with this definition for many areas of Cyprus It was named so by sailors due to its imposing (very big) size, it was visible at sea from far away and it was a sign that they were near land. It was a safety reference point. According to legend, on this mountain there was a throne of the Queen Rigena.
Peak of Sotera How can I get there ?
The best way is Aphroditesnature trail will offer uniqueviewings. It starts and ends at the Baths of Aphrodite (circular trail). It has a length of 7,5 kilometres and the duration is 3 4 hours. Accordingto the Forestry Department the degree of difficulty of this trail is 3 - high. Youwill discover the ruins of the tower of Queen Rigena, the mythological queenof Cyprus. The stone steps will guide youto the peak of the mountain and from there a route with unique views. Enjoythe endless blue view which surrounds the peninsula of Akamas
