Revelation Last Book of the Bible Therefore a summary book Summarising the revelation of Jesus the Christ Summarising those major themes of Scripture And also a concluding book The conclusion of revelation regarding man The conclusion of revelation regarding sin The conclusion of revelation regarding Satan The conclusion of revelation regarding salvation Mountjoy Bible School 2
Revelation 3 First words, The Revelation of Jesus Christ Subject of Scripture is the Saviour, In the volume of the book it is written of me (Ps.40.7; Heb.10.7), therefore the summary book should be so entitled. The word revelation is the translation of the Greek word apokalypse Mountjoy Bible School
Apokalypse 4 Defined : a laying bare, making naked a disclosure of truth, instruction concerning things before unknown things hitherto withdrawn from view are made visible to all manifestation, appearance Therefore this book should bring understanding Mountjoy Bible School
Revelation 5 What is the timeframe? I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty (1.8) Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today, and for ever. (Heb.13.8) Mountjoy Bible School
Revelation 6 In Scripture Yesterday is the period up to the cross. Christ died for our sins (past tense) Today is the period from the cross to the second coming, Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation (2 Cor.6.2) Forever is the period from the second coming on, for the third day is yet to come, the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night (1 Thes.5.2) Mountjoy Bible School
Revelation 7 Therefore the Book of Revelation has An historical progression, like that suggested by the Hebrews text And an eternal emphasis, like that suggested by the text from Revelation. Compare a biography with an historical progression in the book but a different timescale outside. Mountjoy Bible School
Revelation 8 God is both In the book (Mary numbered His days) Outside the book (the everlasting Father) For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end The Book of Revelation reflects this dual timescale Mountjoy Bible School
Revelation 9 We have seen previously that the holy Spirit inspired four views of the Lord Jesus in the gospels. Here again we will observe four views 1 - 3 The Lord Jesus revealed to His people 4 - 11 The Lord Jesus revealed for His people 12 - 20 The Lord Jesus revealed in His people 21 - 22 The Lord Jesus revealed as His people Mountjoy Bible School
The Lord Jesus Revealed to His People (1 - 3) 10 John has a vision of the Lord Jesus I saw seven golden candlesticks; And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle. His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire; And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters. And he had in his right hand seven stars: and out of his mouth went a sharp two- edged sword: and his countenance was as the sun shineth in his strength (1.12-16) Mountjoy Bible School
The Lord Jesus Revealed to His People (1 - 3) 11 It is the appearance of the Lord Jesus as the Son of Man, which reminds us of - The incarnation and His high priestly ministry John has a vision of our Great High Priest We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens; A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man (Heb.8.1) Mountjoy Bible School
The Lord Jesus Revealed to His People (1 - 3) 12 Our great High Priest has a message for the church, What thou seest, write in a book, and send it unto the seven churches which are in Asia Elements of the vision are repeated in the letters to the churches Mountjoy Bible School
1: The one who walks among the lampstands with the seven stars in his hand 1:13, 1:16, 2:1 13 He walks - speaking of His conduct and behaviour Among the lampstands (the churches) - therefore it is His conduct relating to the church His concerns - he congratulates - he reproves The 7 stars in His hand are the angels of the churches. Mountjoy Bible School
1: The one who walks among the lampstands with the seven stars in his hand 1:13, 1:16, 2:1 14 His hand speaks of His protection, And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. (John 10:28) On the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt (Heb. 8:9) For John, he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not (1:17) Mountjoy Bible School
1: The one who walks among the lampstands with the seven stars in his hand 1:13, 1:16, 2:1 15 The angels are His ministers to perform His will And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire. (Heb.1.:7) Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation? (Heb.1:14) Remember Lot, his wife and his two daughters (the hands of angels) Mountjoy Bible School
2: As ..the first and the last, which was dead, and is alive (1.11; 1.18; 2.8) 16 Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me thereis no God . (Is.44.6) I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last. Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life (22.13) Mountjoy Bible School
2: As ..the first and the last, which was dead, and is alive (1.11; 1.18; 2.8) 17 The resurrection of Christ is absolutely vital, for the truths of Revelation and the future of the Church Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time (1 Pet:1.3,4) Mountjoy Bible School
3: As the one who has a sharp two-edged sword proceeding from His mouth (1.16; 2.12) 18 The words that proceed from His mouth are the Word of God Established as God I am and Therefore a sword - reference the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God (Eph.6.7) For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart (Heb.4.12) Mountjoy Bible School
3: As the one who has a sharp two-edged sword proceeding from His mouth (1.16; 2.12) 19 He has a word for the churches A word of warning A word of promise Note - John was on Patmos for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ (1.9) Note - The rider on the white horse is called Faithful and True and bears the name, The Word of God (Rev.19.11-13) Mountjoy Bible School
4: As the one who has eyes like a flame of fire, and feet like fine brass (1.14,15; 2.18; 19.12) 20 He sees - He sees everything Hagar testified, Thou God seest me . To Samuel God said, for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart. To the churches He says, I know .. Mountjoy Bible School
4: As the one who has eyes like a flame of fire, and feet like fine brass (1.14,15; 2.18; 19.12) 21 Feet like unto fine brass Speaks of strength The sockets holding the pillars in the Tabernacle were made of brass (Ex.26.37, etc) A blessing in the Old Testament is, Thy shoes shall be iron and brass; and as thy days, so shall thy strength be . (Deut.33.25) So all that the Saviour represents is on a strong foundation - feet as brass Mountjoy Bible School
4: As the one who has eyes like a flame of fire, and feet like fine brass (1.14,15; 2.18; 19.12) 22 Speaks of judgement Deuteronomy 28 records that if Israel departs from Jehovah judgement would follow, and especially, And thy heaven that is over thy head shall be brass (28.23) But here the feet are of fine brass Those that fell at His feet found mercy (Matt.15.30; Mark 5.20 ff.) Mercy rejoiceth against judgement (James 2.13) Mountjoy Bible School
5: As the one who has the seven spirits and seven stars (1.16,20; 3.1;) 23 Who hath directed the Spirit of the LORD? (Is.40.13) The answer - He who holds the seven stars (cf. John 14.16-18, 26) And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth (5.6) Mountjoy Bible School
5: As the one who has the seven spirits and seven stars (1.16,20; 3.1;) 24 The letters from Christ all end with, He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches (2.7, 11, 17, 29; 3.6, 13, 29) Mountjoy Bible School
5: As the one who has the seven spirits and seven stars (1.16,20; 3.1;) 25 The seven stars Christ directs the ministry of the angels Note : angels ministered, to Jesus after the temptation, to Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane To Joseph, Mary, Zacharias and the shepherds at his birth At His resurrection And have yet to perform much at his next coming Mountjoy Bible School

6: The Holy & True; that hath the key of David, that openeth & shutteth (3.7) 29 Hath the key of David .. openeth .. & shutteth This refers to the promise to the house of David and relates to the throne of David - that even when the captivity was upon them and there seemed no hope, the promise of God to David was sure (cf. Isaiah 22.22) There is a glorious future for the house of David and those that have been grafted in Mountjoy Bible School
7: The Amen, the faithful & true witness, the beginning of the Creation of God (1.5; 3.14) 30 The Amen, the faithful & true witness We have not followed cunningly devised fables (2 Pet.1.16) But a true witness (John 5.31-47) The origin (archi ) of the creation of God Gen.1.1 In the beginning God created .....
