  4. Today we are going to discuss about Lipis story. Our Topic is The Story of Lipi Unit 4 , Lesson - 4

  5. Learning Outcomes After completing this lesson, ss will be able to *learn about the reason of child marriage *raise awareness about bad impact of having more children *take steps to stop early marriage.

  6. Now lets introduce with some new vocabs. Labourer (noun) Worker /Daytaler

  7. Impose ( verb) Saddle /Load

  8. Influential ( adjective) Powerfull/ Capable

  9. Sympathetic (adjective) Tender hearted

  10. Read the text: The year before last, a 14 year old girl was in class 9 in a rural school in Rangpur. Lipi is the eldest of five children- three daughters and two sons. Their father is a day labourer working on other people s land and mother is a homemaker and part time worker at other people s homes. The parents , particularly the mother , found it real difficult to raise five children on the small income the father could earn.

  11. Lipis father wanted to marry her off. But Lipi was not ready to accept what her parents wanted to impose on her. She wanted to pursue her education. Her mother stood by her, though secretly. When her father arranged her marriage with Tara Mia, the only son of a farmer in the same village. Tara Mia was a widower illiterate,but well off.

  12. Pair work Answer the questions. 1.Why did Lipi s father want to get marry her off? 2.What is called child marriage?

  13. Now match the answers. 1.Because,her father found it difficult to raise five children on the small income he could earn. 2.Marriage of a girl or boy which is under 18 years old is called child marriage.

  14. What do you think Lipi should do? And why? Then again read the another text. Lipi first talked with her classmates and then with the Headteacher, who was sympathetic to her. He called a meeting of the teachers and students ,school managing committee members and respectable persons of the village. The Headteacher explained in detail. She would be having children from early age 15 or 16.It would create constant health hazards to her . Her education would stop. On top of all ,her marriage against her will might shatterher future dream.

  15. At last,the big majority,who attended the meeting,supported the Headteacher. Lipi s marriage was called off.She is now studying at Carmichael College,Rangpur.

  16. Group Work * What is the consequences of early marriage to a girl? * When you will see early marriage, what will you do to stop that incident?

  17. Match your answers. *the early marriage would create constant health hazards to a girl. Her education would stop. Finally ,it might shatter her future dream. * When an early marriage will occur ,we aware about it. We should discuss our teacher and reliable person who can help us.

  18. Evaluation 1.What are the right age for marriage? 2.How old Lipi was? 3.Who can help to stop early marriage?

  19. Home Work Write down about early marriage and it s impact on a girl, which occurred in your locality.
