  2. What is Inquiry based learning? Inquiry-based learning is student-centered. We will start with rich questions, curiosity, or wonderings from each other and then move into investigation where you will explore, experiment, interpret data, and finally form conclusions which can sometimes lead to more questions. You have the autonomy in both design and inquiry and will participate in reflection and feedback, personally, collectively and with peers. This creates increased student ownership of your project.

  3. Key Inquiry questions What is a colony? How did this develop over time and why? What do we know about the lives of people during the colonisation of Australia? What was life like inside and outside the colony? How does your colony ensure the safety of all its members, and keep law and order? How is your colony sustainable over a long period of time? What agriculture and infrastructure would be important? How will your colony show the relationship between British settlers and the Indigenous people?

  4. What will I be doing in Minecraft? When building, you will need to consider many things, such as; - landscape of your colony and surroundings of your colony - contrasting building designs (convict tents, free settlers, governor and officers) for all your citizens - justification of every resource, material, building and NPC you build of your convict colony based on - authentic research and background knowledge (remote learning Rich Task) - NPC and linked biographies from different perspectives and groups involved in australia s colonisation (convicts, indigenous, soldiers, officials, free settlers or wives and children of soldiers or officials).

What will I be doing in Minecraft? - slates explaining and labelling all buildings and areas contained inside and outside your colony - infrastructure and agriculture systems that make your colony sustainable - feasible and practical town design and layout - additional NPC s as further learning gateways for additional inquiry thinking (hyperlinks) - authentic indigenous australian NPC s - be creative...but authentic.

  6. What types of thinking will I need? In this Pioneer Challenge, you will engage in Critical and Creative thinking skills utilising discussions and group reflections. This challenge will provide you with the opportunity to develop these skills. Critical and thinking - understanding of thinking processes and an ability to manage and apply these intentionally skills and learning dispositions that support logical, strategic, flexible and adventurous thinking confidence in evaluating your thinking
