OUR MISSION CFCI is committed to promoting students abilities to think and create in personally meaningful ways through an integrated, inquiry-based curriculum in a nurturing and empowering environment
CFCI HISTORY Celebrating our 21styear of Inquiry Based Learning! Doors opened to students K-5 in August, 2000. By 2003 6th, 7th, and 8thgrades were added. Re-chartered in 2005 for 10 years Received our 10 year renewal (2015-2025)!
How do we do school? Inquiry-based learning- Facilitated environment now set up for success! Multi-Tiered System of Support- our FRAMEWORK for how we support ALL students at ALL academic ranges and ability Responsive Classroom- How we STRUCTURE learning, so kids WANT to LEARN and feel SAFE learning all year. So what is MTSS? What is Responsive Classroom? How do they fit into a school focused on inquiry-based learning?
Learning in an Inquiry Classroom Inquiry is a rigorous discovery process driven by curriculum and curiosity that requires exploration, analysis and problem-solving. Hands-on and integrated. Field experiences, labs, speakers Technology Integration (1 to 1 Chromebooks 4-8) Promotes meaningful personal connections. Developmentally appropriate. Nurturing environment. Variety of specials (details in future slides) EC, LEP, 504 Services provided Interventions provided at different levels for students
What does learning involve at CFCI? Independent thinking Cooperative learning Rigorous material Developing research skills Projects High expectations for all students Students will need parental support
Responsive Classroom A way of teaching that creates a safe, challenging, and joyful classroom and school-wide climate for all students. Teachers understand and respond to students academic, social, emotional, and physical needs Teachers think carefully about everything from classroom setup to how they speak to students.
K-5 Elementary Grades Looping Non-traditional grading Thematic and integrated units of study Eureka! Math One hour of art, music, Spanish, physical education and technology a week
Grades 6-8 Curriculum Math (Eureka!) Language arts Science Social Studies Academies topics beyond the standard course of study. Specials PE, Technology are required for a trimester each year. Art, Spanish, band, music, musical theater, acting, study hall, maker space, rehearsal for life, ethics, and film.
Remote Learning Our goal is to integrate as much of our core values and beliefs into our remote learning plans as possible. Hands-on learning Student driven instruction Thematic units of study Limited screen time
CFCI Community Expectations Teachers will: Create integrated lessons; Implement Inquiry-based teaching strategies; Use a variety of instructional techniques; Create individual assessments; Provide an investigative approach to learning; Model the social curriculum.
Students will: Think critically and independently; Own their learning and become effective communicators; learn how to learn; make connections between subject areas and become creative problem solvers; be actively engaged in learning; participate in the social curriculum.
Parents will: Support the mission of CFCI; Encourage and support their children in their learning; Provide timely transportation to and from school; Prepare a nutritious lunch daily for their children; Volunteer when they can. Partnership Classroom Field experience chaperone
CFCI Lottery Information Admission to school is based on a random lottery system. Applications are due no later than February 15th and can be completed on the main school website. We use a digital program called Lotterease that facilitates each step in the lottery process. Lottery numbers are assigned to each family. Siblings receive the same number. Exceptions (priorities) to the lottery system
Lottery Day The lottery will be run on February 17that 9:00am. There is a random drawing to establish enrollment and waiting lists. A wait list is established whenever capacity in a grade level is exceeded. Maximum class size limits: 20 students in each k-1stclass 22 students in each 2nd-3rdclass 24 students in each 4th-8thclass
Post Lottery Day Parents of all applicants will be contacted. If/when a spot becomes available, the next student on the wait list will be contacted. After 20thday of new school year, new students are no longer accepted. The wait list does not roll over to the following school year. A new application must be submitted each year.
