Today we will read on- Unit -14,Lesson-3 Crafts in Our Time
Learning Outcomes After finishing the lesson, the students will be able to learn- Summary and main idea of the topic. After finishing the lesson the students will be able to know that- Distinguish between crafts and art. The major crafts available in Bangladesh. The prospect and despair in the field of crafts.
Summary The lesson is about the crafts of our country that have a great heritage for years . Craft is a handmade art of different products. Pottery, Nakshikantha , terracotta etc. are wonder of our culture that points to the artistic ingenuity. But it s artists name is unknown. The design of a craftwork depends on the desire of the artist .These crafts got change from time to time. But the aesthetics of crafts remains natural. The desires and preferences have been changing but mechanical and mass production cannot give the feeling and stability, that handmade craftwork evokes. In the clash between handmade craftworks and mechanical products, the first one shows its tradition while the second one shows the fulfillment demand at cheap costs. The problem is not easy to solve. Yet, the ingenious, intimate motifs and designs of crafts are sure to create a sense of appreciation in any art lover.
The main ideas of the text The main ideas of the text is the crafts. Crafts are very important part of our society and culture. But, in modern era craftworks are facing tough challenges because of the advancement of the society.

Individual Work Write a summary of the following text. (According to board question no-3) A craftwork thus is a dynamic object-always evolving and always abreast of changing tastes and preferences. It also represents a way of life and cultural flavor. Therefore changes in lifestyle and material conditions are expected to have their impact on craftworks and their production. But certain forms, shapes , styles and aesthetic preferences change little over time, suggesting that a craftwork can function as a stable signifier of community values and desires over time. Mechanical and mass production take away this feeling of assurance and stability and sense of continuity that the handmade craftwork evokes.
