Exploring Fuel and Cars: A Child's Guide
Cars need fuel to move, just like we need food to function. There are different types of fuels for cars, including diesel, petrol, liquid gas, and electricity. Learn how oil is formed, extracted from the earth, and processed into fuel. Explore the journey of fuel from oil rigs to your car's tank. Discover the importance of using the correct fuel for your car's performance and efficiency.

Did you know? Following from a child s interest, we are going to learn all about Fuel and Cars! For a car to move it needs to have fuel inside. We need to have food in our bodies to move. Cars are the same - they need fuel to get them moving. There is more than one type of fuel for cars. They can run on diesel, petrol and liquid gas. Some cars even use electricity to move! You may have seen your mum or dad putting a hose into your car at the petrol station. The fuel is pumped up from a tank, through the hose and into your car. Your car can only have one type of fuel, so make sure mum/dad puts the correct fuel in the car otherwise your car will not be able to work properly! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oWxQBY-OUYA
Millions of years ago the earths surface was covered with water Living in the water were lots of plants and animals These plants and animals grew old and when they died they fell to the bottom of the sea into a big pile Sand and mud began to cover the plants and animals There would be a layer of sand and a layer of mud. These layers became heavy and created rocks Heat from the earth and the weight from the heavy rocks squashed the plants and animals, which created oil
When the oil is ready it slowly rises through the rocks, although some oil gets trapped underground. Oil can then be found in many parts of the world. These are called oil fields. To get to the oil you need a big drill and a rig. This includes the platform which supports the drill and the workers. Once the rig is built they can then drill a well into the ground under the water to reach the oil. Below is a video from someone who works on a real oil rig. You can move the camera around to look about ! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y05IcDJvd4Q What could you use to build a model oil rig? Remember to Tweet us a picture @HazeldeneFamC
The oil that comes from the sea is then boiled to create fuel. From there the fuel is split into individual tanks for example petrol or diesel.
I listen or watch for useful or interesting information and I use this to make choices or learn new things. LIT 0-04a Understands and responds to spoken texts. Identifies new or interesting information from spoken texts. Within real and imaginary situations, I share experiences and feelings, ideas and information in a way that communicates my message. LIT 0-09a Talks clearly to others in different contexts, sharing feelings, ideas and thoughts. Uses new vocabulary and phrases in different contexts, for example, when expressing ideas and feelings or discussing a text. I use signs, books or other texts to find useful or interesting information and I use this to plan, make choices or learn new things. LIT 0-14a Finds information in a text to learn new things.
I enjoy exploring technologies to discover what they can do and how they can help us. TCH 0-01a Within real and imaginary settings, I am developing my practical skills as I select and work with a range of materials and tools TCH 0-12a Through discovery, natural curiosity and imagination, I explore ways to construct models or solve problems. TCH 0-14a I can describe some of the kinds of work that people do and I am finding out about the wider world of work. HWB 0-20a I can talk about science stories to develop my understanding of science and the world around me. SCN 0-20a I am aware that different types of evidence can help me to find out about the world around me. SOC 0-15a
