Class Discussion: What happened to Germany after WWI? What did Hitler offer the citizens of Germany? What was the result of both of these things?
Direct Characterization The narrator blatantly tells you something about the character: I most definitely can be cheerful just don t ask me to be nice. Nice has nothing to do with me. She was five feet, one inch tall her cooking was atrocious she possessed the unique ability to aggravate almost everyone she ever met
Indirect Characterization It is not blatantly spelled out by the narrator what kind of person this character is, however it is strongly implied: It took fifteen minutes to coax her from the car. It was the tall man who did it. Quietly Each morning he was a few feet away from her, crumpled, almost halved, in the chair. He never used the other bed
